Hi Onokai,

The new Square Contactless and Chip Reader comes with a free magstripe reader. So you can swipe cards too. Or you have the option to use manual entry.

I have the new chip / magstripe combo and cannot get the magstripe part of it to work.  I have to switch out to the magstripe only device to swipe -- this is a real pain.  I've tried different cards and none will swipe on the new reader.

Can you check out some of the troubleshooting tips here, @nkahootzhttps://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5412-square-chip-card-reader-tips-and-troubleshooting

Chip and magstripe cards should work seamlessly.

"Chip and magstripe cards should work seamlessly."

What if only the chip reader works and not the mag strip?

We're having the same problem.  Mag strip does not read whether card has chip or not.  We've follow all the suggestions in SUPPORT and still no response when trying to use mag strip.  Chip reader works fine.  We would really appreciate a response from Square Tech Support!

If you've run through all our troubleshooting steps (https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5412-square-chip-card-reader-tips-and-troubleshooting), you'll need to submit a warranty claim (https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5148(. Sorry for the frustration!

Thanks, George.  Hopefully the new chip reader will work.  Aside from this issue, we've loved using Square.
