Need help setting up limited quantity inventory purchase

I need to set up a purchase/payment page for selling items and I can't quite find the right place on the Square site. I have a quantity of e.g. 100 "widgets" for $5 each. I need a page that will let the user select the quantity desired and calculate the cost. I need to limit the max number of widgets that can be purchased at one time to e.g. 10. I also need to stop someone from putting the total purchased over 100 widgets. For example if 90 widgets have already been purchased someone cannot order 15 widgets as that would be more than we have on-hand. It would be preferable if the requested quantity could be automatically reduced to 10 in this example so as to not exceed the total inventory and let the purchase decide if he/she wants to continue. If all have been sold it would be nice to prevent further orders altogether.

Also, is there a way to require the purchaser to enter their name and email address? We currently have a problem with our other purchase links in that if they do not enter this information we have no idea who made the purchase.

Thanks!

After spending nearly 2 hours on the phone with the help desk, I cannot do exactly what I want. I can create an item with a max inventory and max sales per person, but it requires the buyer to enter a shipping address, even though there is nothing to be shipped. The only way I could create a checkout link without requiring a shipping addresses was to create a "sell tickets" item, which is intended for events, and I had to enter a bogus event location. Neither I not the help desk person found a way to limit the max inventory, nor to limit the number of "tickets" per person.

I've put this idea in the "Ideate" box.

Hello @hiram

It depends on what you want your page to look like.

If you need a full website with multiple items, you'll want to create a new Square Online Store

If you need a page with a single item, a checkout link might work best for you.

When creating an item, you are able to indicate the stock you have on hand, so your online store will show an "Out of Stock" message once you sell the 100 units you have.

In the same screen where you edit your items, you'll see the option to enable per-order quantity limits after creating an online store.

During checkout, we ask your customers for first and last names, email and phone number.

If you are shipping your items, we'll also require their shipping address.

I have linked relevant articles for more in-depth information.

I hope this helps answer your questions!

Let me know if I can be of help.

Thank you.

Frances_A, thanks for your help. I'm trying to set this up now. The first problem is that my "Create Item" screen looks nothing like the screen in the video you suggested. The video's page is:

CreateItemVideo.png

Whereas the actual Create Item page on the Square site is:

CreateItemActual.png

The "video" page has a nice table labeled "Price and Inventory". The actual site page has the same info, arranged differently. My initial stumbling block is the "Stock" field. I cannot figure out out to enter the amount of stock. The "Manage Stock" dialog simply has "Available at 1 of 1 locations", a "Tracking" slider, "Stock on hand" is grayed out and I cannot enter a number, and a "Mark as sold out on Point of Sale and Online" slider.

How do I specify my inventory quantity?

Hi @hiram! Sorry for the delay here -- if you slide the "Tracking" slider, it should allow you to then specify an inventory quantity.
