International order goes missing....how to file a claim for a USPS refund?

Well, this is a first for me after many years of shipping. An order I shipped from Hawaii to a customer in Canada in early February lingered in California for weeks. Yesterday the tracking update showed it was .... several thousand miles away, in Norway!

Since it may be a long time before the package makes its way to British Columbia, if ever, I offered my very patient customer the option of a refund or Iʻd ship again, and she chose the latter. So Iʻll be out the cost of the inventory I ship, plus the postage, but I hope to eventually get reimbursed by the USPS.

I want to file a claim through USPS. But I am concerned that I can't see a way to print the documentary evidence USPS wants of the value and proof of shipping on this order. I can print the order from my orders page, but it doesn't actually print my business name. And the order page wonʻt let me print a packing slip. As for shipping, that was done through the order page - I have a Shippo account linked as part of my Weebly package- but again, all I can find a way to print to PDF is the original order with no business name or contact info. Does anyone know of a workaround for this?

HI, go ahead and file the Missing Mail Request on usps.com.  Give them as much information as you can.  Be sure to send the replacement UPS or FedEx (these get derailed too).  Packages are taking extended delivery times and are routing everywhere but where they are supposed to be.  You are doing everything correctly so far so don't worry.

Regarding having your business information printed or identifying yourself, currently the USPS is so burdened with mail, they will surely accept all the information you do have.  Also, remember eBay sellers, Mercari sellers etc. do not have business names or identification on their packages and do get reimbursed if mail gets lost.  Lost mail is the norm now unfortunately.

Hope This Helps!

Thanks! I have submitted the claim. Hopefully they will accept the PDF of the order. I donʻt think I can ship the replacement by UPS or FedEx- they are just very pricey from Hawaii, even to the mainland. But I figure the odds that the USPS could screw this up twice are low (knock on wood)!

Don't under estimate the USPS for loosing mail, I have been dealing with them since 12-28-2021 about a damaged package.  Filed the claim then they wrote a letter on the 12th of January 2022 for me to take the package and damaged Item(s) to my local post office for inspection with in 30 Days.  Problem was I did not receive this letter till 6pm on Saturday the 12th of February.  Called on Monday the 14th and my claim was denied for failure to do as letter stated.  My customer also got the letter, but she got it on the 16th of February.   Now who keeps a box from a store that was used for shipping for 30 plus days and broken glass??  But this is what they expect to get refunded for their mistake.  Photos were taken of the damaged box, packing materials and the broken item, and all shown in the initial claim.
