Generate sku

I am trying to generate Sky for my items. There is. It drop down menu to utilize. How can I add them?

I’ve tried troubleshooting, but have not been successful

When you create an Item leave the SKU field Blank.  Repeat for all your items.  When you have all your items created with No SKU's, click the Drop Down to Create SKU's.  Then SKU's will be created for all items with No data in the sku field.  Then if you look at an item the SKU field will now be filled with a code of both numbers and letters.
