Does the Square strip and chip reader no longer need to be charged?

I noticed that the charge portal on the Square reader for chip and strip credit cards did not light up when I plugged it in for a recharge. Does this reader no longer need to be charged like the Contact Less and Chip Reader?

If you are talking about the combo unit that still plugs into the headphone jack, then yes it does still need to be charged.

Yes, I am talking about the combination reader that accepts a card that can be swiped or inserted with its chip.  I tested my reader with a credit card and it accepted it using the chip, but wold not accept a payment transaction when I swiped the card. My credit card has a chip and a strip.

The reader worked even though I did not charge this reader. I tried to charge it by plugging it into the USB cord, but the charge portal did not light up at all. Last year, I had to charge it and the portal light would be red and when the charge was complete it would turn to gree.  It currently does none of this, but it works.
