I just downloaded the appointment app and I am disappointed because you have to be connected to Wi-Fi to use it is that correct or am I doing something wrong

Yes, you can use Offline Mode in your Appointments. See the hyperlinked article on implementing and facts on using Offline Mode.
Turn it on by going to Settings in your app > Offline Mode. There you will turn it on and off. Also, you can add a transaction limit while in Offline Mode.
