CREDIT CARD TIP ADJUSTMENT AFTER TRANSACTION IS CLOSED
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS ANYWAY TO READJUST A CREDIT CARD TRANSACTION AFTER IT WAS CLOSED WITH OUT THE TIP BEING ADJUSTED, MY HOSTESS SOMEHOW CLOSED SOME TRANSACTIONS WITHOUT THE TIP & ANY OTHER CREDIT CARD PROVIDER I HAVE ALWAYS USED I COULD CALL & HAVE THE TIP MANUALLY ADJUSTED OR ADDED ON TO THE CARD SETTLEMENT & I WAS NOT LOOSING THE MONEY THAT HAD ALREADY BEEN PAID OUT TO THE SERVER BUT NOT ADJUSTED ON THE TRANSACTION! I HAVE NOT FOUND ANY OPTION FOR THIS ON SQUARE AT ALL & THIS IS THE FIRST CREDIT CARD PROCESSING COMPANY I HAVE SEEN THAT THEIR IS NOT AN OPTION FOR THIS UNLESS I HAVE NOT FOUND IT! IF SOMEONE COULD PLEASE HELP, MISTAKES HAPPEN & THEY CAN EASILY BE CLOSED ON ACCIDENT WITHOUT ADJUSTMENT ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE NEW EMPLOYEES TRAINING BUT I CANT CONTINUE TO LOOSE MONEY THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME WAY TO FIX THIS, AS I HAVE SAID BEFORE THIS IS A FIRST TIME WHERE I HAVE SEEN PROCESSING NOT BE ABLE TO MANUALLY ADJUST THIS? HELP!

Hi @JESMAYFIELD. Since you don’t specify somewhere in all of those capital letters, I need to ask whether you are using Square POS, Square for Restaurants or Square Retail? I’m assuming you use either POS or Restaurants, but that’s important information in order to properly help you.

I actually use the pos, i have 2 square terminals & 2 tablets that I use the pos systems on & an iPad I do have square for restaurant but I am not a fan so I do not use it & u just use the free edition pos system

Got it. (And thanks for turning off the caps. It’s much easier to read!)
So, here’s the way things are in the Square ecosystem. You can reopen checks and adjust things to a limited degree. But, since this feature is exclusively a restaurants ‘thing,’ you can only do it in Square for Restaurants AND you can only do it in the Square for Restaurants Plus or higher tier. You’ll probably not exactly like this, since it means paying $180 per month (Plus + 3 additional POS), but it is the way it is right now. Square considers this a Restaurants Plus level feature. Honestly, I doubt that will ever change.
You COULD, though I wouldn’t recommend it, just subscribe to Restaurants Plus and continue using your POS. Then, when you need to reopen a check to adjust it you could fire up the Restaurants App and do what you need to correct transaction(s). You’d also need to fire up the Restaurants App at the close of business to run your close of day reports and steps, so that your transactions would batch out and not have to wait 36 hours for that to happen automatically.
If you do this, there is a Reopen check setting that would need to be set in order to KEEP the customer’s payment method when reopening checks. Here is an announcement about that. It is very important because, if you don’t turn this setting on, then when you reopen a check the customer’s payment method is discarded and that is not a good thing.
That’s all I can assist you with. I hope it helps, even if it is not exactly the answer you were seeking.
Lastly, I find it interesting that you don’t like Restaurants. I own an ice cream shop and am in the process of switching to it now. I love the interface on Terminals and the POS, especially because it will significantly reduce the scrolling we do now. We have very large modifier lists, and Restaurants streamlines that a lot for us. But, I understand. We all have our preferences.

Hi! We have the same problems about the tip adjustment after the settlement.
Is there any improvement by now? We use a Restaurant plus app.
When I talked to a customer service representative, she said it should be able to reopen check and adjust the tip. Somehow, there is a system error on our account. Is there anyone who has the same issues?
