In the chart found at https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/6334, there are two Socket Mobile Bluetooth barcode scanners listed as compatible for iPad use; the CHS 7Ci and the S700, which is the newer model. I purchsed the S700, but when I try to connect it, I get a message that says "Socket CHS 7Ci is currently the only bar code scanner model supported by Square Retail."
- Is there a workaround for the S700?
- What is it?
- If not, why is it listed as compatible?
I need this working asap, as I have a conference this week.
Thanks!
I just discovered this announcement:
Socket Mobile has discontinued both their 7Qi and 7Ci Mobile Scanners for iPad as of the end of 2018. Two new models have been released in their place, the S700 and S740. For more information on Socket Mobile's new Mobile Scanners, click on the links above.
I don't want to have to buy an obsolete model, when there is a perfectly good new model that is actually listed as compatible. So now I really want to know how to make this one work.
At this rate, my trial period for Square for Retail will be up before I get a chance to use this at a conference
Hey @jcwords,
Thanks for flagging this! I went to double check on this and I have some good news—the S700 is compatible with the Square for Retail!
The process to pair the S700 is the same as the 7Ci; it's just not listed as compatible in the app itself. Our Retail Team is working to update this content and prevent any further confusion.
For step-by-steps, head over to this section of our Support Center: Connect Bluetooth Scanners to iPads.
Apologies for any frustration. Please let us know if you encounter any other issues with connecting the scanner.
