Uploading inventory for the first time

I have a busy gift and home store using square for retail. We opened quickly and have never uploaded our inventory or used our scanners. There is a huge disconnect in my mind on how to get this done. Where can I look to get started?

Hello @Leftoversagain thanks for your post. Here is a help article that explains importing a spreadsheet with your inventory. Just some tips...if you first EXPORT your inventory, even if you don't have any or much listed, this will give you a 'template' to use to see how to format your info. When you go to upload your spreadsheet or .csv data file, try doing small bits at a time. If you have a huge inventory with hundreds or thousands of items, most likely the import with time out and you'll get stuck. Start with smaller increments and see how it goes at first. Hope this helps with your inventory!

Also to use the scanner, you'll need to import the sku or barcode info. If your items already have preprinted barcodes, you can add this after you import your inventory. From your Register select your item, then select SKU field. Then click with your barcode and it will scan the barcode data into your SKU field. It's possible to add this into your data spreadsheet prior to importing, but sometimes you can't see the "characters" represented by your barcode. You may be able to attach your barcode scanner to your desktop computer and enter the barcodes into your spreadsheet though. Good luck! It takes time, but once you have a system in place, adding and managing inventory will get easier.

Hi Charlie, Thank you so much for your reply. That makes more sense than what I’ve read elsewhere so I know we can work with that. I appreciate your help!
