Square for retail

For a place with multiple vendors - when checking out a customer, I want to be able to just choose a vendor or vendors and enter the price of the item customer is purchasing.   Then give the customer a total for payment.  Then the end of the day I can see the $ amt each vendor sold or run a report showing that info.

I do not necessarily need an itemized description of each item sold per vendor.   I will possibly just let each item be called the same thing like PURCHASE for instance.      Can I just use the free retail portion of square?  And I saw someone post to set up each vendor as a “category”?   For instance … set up a category for:

# 1 vendor - John Doe for the 1st category.    /  # 2 vendor - James Doe for the 2nd category … etc.

would this work?  Thank you!

Try this,

Create Items of the Vendors Name.

Leave the Price Field empty when creating the "Item"

Then when customer comes up you type in or select the Vendor Name as the item, since no price was entered Square will ask you for a Price.  You enter said price, then Select or search for next vendor, and keep repeating for each item 'vendor' for that customer.

The only reason I say to do this over categories is you would still need the Items or an Item in the category also.

Then at the end of the day you can get a report of "Items" sold.

From the Square dashboard go to Reports > then Item Sales   (Category Sales) if you choose Categories

Hello @SLA123 - I see this is your first post in the Seller Community so I'd like to officially welcome you! 🎉👏

I am happy to help, but I would like to better understand, will our Vendor Sales Report under Retail Plus not provide the information you are looking for?

I tried and tested this and I believe that will work!   Now I’m going to test using a credit card AND using cash as pmt.  We have been using the square for credit card pmts but not cash.   So new for us using as a cash pmt.

thank you!

@SLA123 ;

Your welcome.

Now I am not sure of what type of Square device you are or will be using and if you have a scanner or not.

To speed up Typing in the Vendors (Item) name you could have a cheat barcode sheet.  Basically a sheet with the Vendors on them and a SKU pointing to them as an Item.  Use scanner scan vendor then enter price.  I do this for some of our smaller items like a pendant for a necklace or charms for in memory lockets.  We track the Charms but not which charm sells better, they all have the same price and cost.  You can make Barcodes for Free in Google sheets to print out too.  Just change the font in google sheets to Barcode Font 39 or 128 or QR if you have a 2d scanner.

Just a tip to get your sales line moving faster.  🙂
