Sales tax only on selected items

We're a cooperative gallery considering using Square for retail. When someone purchase and takes an item with them they pay local state tax. If an item is being shipped to them out of state we do not. Is it possible to charge sales tax only for some items and not others or their shipping fees?

Thank you!

Great question, Sales tax can be tricky depending on your local/state jurisdiction. When you create an item in your Square inventory you have the option to turn on/turn off Sales tax (which you would first create in your settings).

You should also be able to toggle the tax on or off for each item. How are you taking your payment? In person...on the phone? If you are taking payments on Square either through the Square Register or POS software, you should be able to click on the item and get an option to toggle the Sales Tax.

If you needed flexibility with shipping fees also, you could manually add items to an order calling them "shipping" and either assign the tax, or toggle it off.

Hope this might help answer your question. If it does, please consider marking this as a Best Answer to help other sellers who may also have this question.
