New Printed Receipt Format

So here is a question for all of the Square sellers out there and maybe you haven't noticed this however, Please post a reply here to get some attention.

Previously (before updates)  you could add a discount to a product automatically at checkout and it would display and then in the totals column , it would show "How much you saved".

Now what Square is doing is taking your retail price, crossing a line through it and then putting the new price there.   No totals at the bottom.

I can't imagine many retailers dont want to show their customers in a single line format how much they saved.

do you like the new format or want the older one back with a total saved line in the summary.

Hello, thanks for your message. I have been happy with the update because I was getting a lot of customers who were confused; they wanted to see the new price right along side of the regular or posted price. Especially when we have multiple discounts on different items, it was hard for my customers to see what exactly was being discounted. So speaking for my customers, they like to see each item that's been discounted.

I agree it is a great selling point to show how much money customers are saving. Perhaps this is a line item that could be added to the bottom of the receipt? I'm not sure what the coding or technical requirements would be, but every feedback helps. I know Square research teams look into what can be done to improve our experience for our customers.

Yes,

And that was my point.   Different discounts and such forth.

A receipt should look like this:

Retail Price   $29.95

YourPrice      $26.95

Totals =  (taxes etc...)

You saved $ 3.00

The bottom line summary (like they had before) was fairly critical.  Otherwise, people just look at the line item but can't see the larger number .  Sales 101, when saving money show the largest number possible.  Zig Ziglar has taught that for years and besides, go to your local grocery store. People want to see the bottom line on savings.

I haven't printed a receipt in months since our business is seasonal, but what you are describing is what people have been asking for for the last 8 years.  Itemized discounts to the item instead of buying 20 items that have the full price and then a savings at the bottom.

so it sounds like a compromise would be to show the new itemized discounts and ALSO show the3 total saved at the bottom.

I for one am happy if the itemized sale price is what will print as it literally is a dozen or more phone calls a day saying we didn't give them their discount.

I agree with you. Previously, it used to have the itemized discounts AND THEN a total savings in the summary.

We do not print a ton of receipts either however, square sends an electronic receipt too that looks the same way.

We all want our customers to see our discounts per item and total saved.

Is there a way to have the subtotal show up first, then show the discount, then show the total? Servers complain about customers are not aware of the total before any auto discounts or promos.

Example of receipt

Item 1       $10

Item 2      $10

Happy hour discount    $5

Subtotal    $15

Total          $15

Example of what I want:

Item 1       $10

Item 2      $10

Subtotal    $20

Discount    $5

Total          $15

Hi @BeChewzy - Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Square Seller Community👋

I went ahead and merged your post to an existing thread where other Square Sellers have discussed this as well.

At this time, the ability to customize the appearance of discounts on a receipt is a feature request. Although this feature isn’t currently available with Square, it’s a great idea and I can see how it would be beneficial to your business.

I’ve shared your feature request with our Product Team, as they are constantly improving our products based on feedback like this. To learn more about how feature requests work, please see this post from one of our Seller Community Moderators.

In the meantime, keep an eye out for any updates, here, in our Seller Community. We appreciate your input
