More Decimal places for Cost of Items

Square charges a monthly fee for Square for Retail, but businesses can not use the Cost of items Correctly, weather it is entering a Straight up cost of an item, On a Receiving Report or on a Purchase Order.  I would say MOST retailers buy items in bulk at a set price.  There by making an item actually cost fractions of a cent.   People have been bringing this up since 2016.  I saw the suggested threads that dated back to then when I typed in the Title for this Feature Request.  But probably like most feature requests Square will not do anything or think this has nothing to do with accepting a CC payment, but it should be standard features in Square for Retail that people are paying monthly for.  To me paying for Square for Retail is basically useless for these rounding errors constantly appearing between Accounting software and Square for Retail.  This should be Square for Home Based Flea Markets not for an actual Retail store.

I pointed out why it is important to have more than 2 decimal places in this Topic :

I typed in a search for More than 2 Decimal places, there were 1358 PAGES on this topic to show how many people are or were looking for this feature.  I wonder how many stopped using Square or Stopped Paying for Square for Retail because in Retail we only have 2 decimal places for item costs, not really needed for sale price or a cost to a customer unless we sell in bulk like a Distributor or Wholesale Vendor which could come up as a each item is $10.30 but if you buy 1000 the price drops to $9.8942 each or some weird fraction.

Here are Screen shots for this feature requests since not many people seem to go here to see the Ideate board unless they are REQUESTING a Feature not to see if one that could benefit them has been requested.

I would also like to request more decimal places for item costs and sales taxes. Square is full of rounding errors that make the for retail paid plan sort of useless compared to alternatives like quickbooks. I tried out the for retail 30 day trial because I am considering transitioning my business away from quickbooks and completely onto the square system but unfortunately after like 2 days I said no way, we will continue using quickbooks for now. Simply way too many basic features missing to justify the monthly cost.

Hello @Candlestore, thank you so much for submitting a new request for this, and @MagoosTX for adding your voice to this request as well. I did get some insight from our Retail Product Team that this feature is on the roadmap, but I do not have an exact ETA for when this will be rolled out. They are stating it will be the latter half of the year.  There are many factors that affect the implementation of these features, so please keep in mind this expected timeline could change. We will make sure to let you know about any updates to this request. I really appreciate you guys taking the time to reach out and continue to stay patient throughout this process! 🙏

I like to bring this one up again as it is a big limitation of the system that you can inventory in decimals, sell in decimals but not receive via PO in decimals.

We sell cheeses and receive cheeses in Lbs but cannot use the PO feature as the cheeses are received in decimals of lbs.  E.g. we may order 5 lbs but receive 4.98lbs or 5.45lbs and are charged based on the exact weight.

We currently cannot use the PO feature as it only allows full numbers and does not recognize items stocked in lbs ability to have decimals.  We need to go into each item to receive them which is time-consuming and error-prone.

This missing feature was also mentioned in other requests.  Please consider and add it to the planned features list.

Hey there @lbicheese merge your request to this one that was already submitted. Please see my response people for more information.

I really appreciate all your input on this request as well!

@MayaP - please note the requests ARE NOT the same.  They are asking for additional decimals in costs, we are asking to receive PO's items in decimals.  Can you explain the feature that is on the roadmap?
