We use square for point of service sales of t-shirts, caps, and such mostly at fund raising events. We also operate a small self serve kiosk at our main location, but only on a cash basis. We would like to use square to make self-serve sales available at that main location when staff are not present. It is an honor system and we understand the risks but we have a small and loyal following. Can someone help me with the equipment we need (card reader/communication device, etc.) and how to set it up?
I can be reached at steve@thechildrensrescue.org. Thanks in advance for any help!
@Stevieaugie Are your items barcoded? Do you have a lot of items? If your items are barcoded, you could use a square terminal with a barcode scanner. The square terminal has a 1/4 20 nut on the bottom, so it could be secured. It also has everything you would need to run a self service kiosk, they could dip, chip or swipe and get a receipt plus it’s small and doesn’t take up much counter space. If they have to enter a price theirself, then you may have to spend time teaching them how to use the Square interface. I hope this helps some.

I'm also opening a self-serve stall at a makers market. I use Square in our shop but don't plan on staffing this smaller location all the time.
What's the best solution? We do not have bar codes but I can set up inventory and have a Favorites page like we do on our other system. Guests could simply select the item they are buying and tap/swipe.
Thanks for your help on this.
@rtfulk shared some good advice in this thread if you haven't seen as well!

like others are saying, lock down your terminal - make sure your settings are within the least amount of permissions possible so no one tampers with your info / account..thats the only concern I have for you. Good luck!
