Latest POS update.

Has anyone else noticed a lag with the newest square stand with today's (8/29) update? When we tap or dip it takes several seconds for the lights to start flashing, Tap to pay is really slow.

Hi there, @MountainHouse - Just want to clarify that app version 6.24 is not related to the issues we experienced last Thursday. For more information on that, please see this post that we just released.

In the coming days, a Square Point of Sale update (version 6.25.1) will resolve the disruption experienced by some Sellers using Square Stand and the Square Reader for Contactless and Chip connected via USB on Point of Sale version 6.24/6.25. Impacted Sellers may see a message indicating that the reader has disconnected. If you are seeing this message, it is recommended that you connect to Bluetooth for the time being.  You may return to using USB after upgrading to 6.25.1 when available.

I don't have an exact ETA on when 6.25.1 will be available but I can see that we have submitted it to the App Store and are currently waiting for review so it shouldn't be too much longer. Thank you for your patience and understanding in the meantime 🙏

Tap to pay was slow for me this morning as well. I'm using the newest square stand (black & white)

@alexandriak It takes about 3-5 seconds for tap to Pay to activate after you hit the charge button. I hope they push a fix out quick.

A new update has come through today on Square For Retail on the Square stand and it is DOG SLOW.. After the card is approved it actually goes back to the checkout screen, the part we see with the colorful boxes, before changing to the tip screen. And the tap to pay seems to take much longer then before to accept and approve. @_Violet

I went ahead and merged your post to an existing thread where other Square Sellers have discussed lags after a recent update as well. We merge duplicate conversations together to keep like comments in one place, and to make it easier for others to find the thread in the future. 

 

It seems like there could be something going on here since you've all reported similar behavior. I'm reaching out to some of our internal teams to figure out how we should proceed. Thanks for your patience in the meantime 🙏

Thanks! @_Violet They couldn't have picked a worse weekend for this! Labor Day is extremely busy. The whole stand is behaving erratically. Slow, screen lag, random reader disconnects, we had one transaction get stuck on approving a chip card and it never timed out. Had to manually terminate the square for retail app and start over. Overall this update is just horrible!!!!! I hope they work this out before Saturday!!!

Our engineering team is asking if we can get a video of this behavior, as this would be beneficial. 

Also is this still persisting or was this just happening on 8/29?

My issue has already been reported and videos sent in from the previous time my exact issue started (back in Dec/January). It took about 4 months for them to fix my exact problem last time. They should have video on file from the last time I submitted.

Its still happening, and VERY easy to duplicate, just run a transaction. Has anyone else already sent sufficient video or is this on me? I was hoping they would have jumped on this for this very busy holiday weekend. I would think with all of those posts on this matter that engineering would trust that its legitimate.

This is going on for me too, and when I try to get a video of it, people wonder why I am videoing it since they think I am trying to steal their CC information.  I use to be able to press Charge and the customer would Tap and went right through.  Now I press Charge and tell the customer just wait for the Green Light.  I do not press Charge when I am ready because the customer sometimes has to find the Right card and Square for Softy reasons Times out for accepting the Tap.  The green light on the reader may take anywhere from 2 to 5 seconds to light up after pressing Charge.  Like others have stated this has all started after an update.  I usually do not work the Square Stand my partner does but never mentioned it till I asked about the delay.  Then she said it started a week or so ago.

The slowness is fixed in 6.24, however allegedly 6.24 is to blame for the global outage. 6.25.1 is due very soon.

Here is my video this morning before I opened.  I rang up 3 Items, pressed charge and counted to 6 as you can see in the video.  Then I cancelled the transaction.  Tagged you Mounthouse to show you are not alone at submitting videos.  I tried it before but customers were looking at me funny since their credit card was being recorded so I stopped that.    The video is 10 seconds long I think.

I saw the update yesterday, and then had another one today.  6.25.2 yesterday and 6.26 today.  Both do not have the delay when pressing Charge........ now to figure out what got updated from 6.25.2 to 6.26......???

@Candlestore I think yesterday's update was just for iOS 17. I know we had to update our business app just for iOS 17, even though nothing new was added or fixed.
