Inventory Management/Transfer from Storage Room to Retail Store

Question, do I really need to setup/establish two separate locations if I have a physical retail store and now a storage facility.  Do I really need to pay additional $60 a month for the "additional location" for my storage facility/room?

If not, how can I setup my inventory so that I am able to see the number of items in my physical store (which I currently have in place today) and then the number of items that I have in storage?

I do not know if this will help you but all I do is track total inventory for retail store and inventory.  When I get down to say a case at the retail site I just get more.  I use the description area of the item to keep track of cases at the warehouse and the items location.  My quantity with Square for inventory is the total items at warehouse plus the items in house to avoid the $60 fee.  My other option was to enable this feature in Quickbooks, but learned that is only available for Enterprise version of Quickbooks Desktop, but that is $1800 plus a year; so Square at $60 a month- $720 a year is a bargain.

Another way is to create a spreadsheet that has you quantities in two locations.

You might be able to find some software as an add on or something that can track these moves for you, and update inventory in Square.

You could also import inventory to oodo inventory which is free, have oodo keep track of warehouse and Square for in store sales and that inventory.

@Boxwoodoldtown Ugh… I wholeheartedly agree! I have 2 “locations” set up, but the one is just my warehouse; the warehouse is for us only, not for customers. I keep all of our finished product in the warehouse that isn’t ready for sale in our mobile retail location. It’s a nightmare! I wish there was a “WAREHOUSE or STORAGE” feature for products that were on hand, but not actively for sale. @Square how is this NOT a feature?? I should be able to move items into “holding or not in use”

Also in STORAGE or WAREHOUSE, there should be an option to log SUPPLIES. I am an artist; I use paint, canvas, varnish, etc which are supplies or components that make up a final product or ITEM for sale. When I’m signed into my mobile retail, I don’t want to see those things in my items.. bc they aren’t with me. I don’t sell them; however, the are crucial for me to inventory so that I can make a product to sell.

I feel there are a lot of “MAKERS” in the Square community that are struggling with the same thing; or any small business owner that has to have “supplies” on hand in order to run their business (hairstylist: sell haircuts, trims but have to have supplies: scissors, irons /// clothing designer: sells shirts, hats but have to have supplies: cloth, yarn, needles). There is a huge gap in the Square platform. I can’t speak for everyone, but for me…. I want to MAKE and not hunt down all these apps and integrations to run my business. Honestly, I would love to have it ALL in Square.

In a perfect world:
I would open my Square dashboard and have a personal and business bank account. I could check my balances and see my cash flow. There would even be options for retirement and long term savings. I would then go to a tax dashboard where I could see all of the states individual sales/thresholds to comply with the new tax laws (Shopify is already doing this fyi). Then, I would go to a sales tax dashboard and file and remit my sales tax for anything that had been collected within a certain amount of time. Now it’s time to take a look at my inventory… I have a show coming up, I check my finished product inventory and decide how many canvases I need to make. Let’s say that there are 4… Square would then give me a supplies list required to complete the 4 canvases. It would know this bc I would be able to set that up within my “SUPPLIES” dashboard: 6’ canvas, 1 frame, 4 stretcher bars, etc). Then I hop over to my “SUPPLIES” dashboard and can see “uh oh..I only have 2 stretcher bars… looks like i need to order more in order to prep for the show. Then when it comes time for the show, I want to move 2-3 canvases in my mobile retail location back into storage (they aren’t right for the show). Once the new pieces are ready, they get added into the mobile retail location and are ready for sale.

At any given time, I know how much supplies or raw materials that I have on hand. I know every ready-to-sell item (finished canvases and prints in my scenario) that I have on hand in Storage AND in my mobile retail location. Therefore if I’m at a show in California and my inventory shows 2 on a certain print, I can have my studio assistant in TN pull that same print from storage and ship it to me. Then after that show, I would then need to remit the sales tax.

Please make my life easier by including at least a warehouse and supplies option…

I have wanted this feature since 2019, when I joined Square.  I have 1 retail location and I have 4 areas for storage of inventory.  Since I do not use Square for hosting my Website I use the Description for my " Bin Location " . This way if I have say 6 on Display and someone wants 1 dozen holders, I can go to a Square Stand, tape Items, scan the Item and scroll down to the Description.  In the Description it will have a prefix such as A (Attic), B (Basement), BB (Back Barn), or WB (Wax Barn) then the shelf numbering system.  This helps us locate the items quickly for our customers.  I do not print Description on my receipts either.   I know this is not what your looking for but maybe it can help you or others with a small work around.

Thanks @Candlestore for the suggestion 🙂 However,  I already use Square for my website.

I think we are all wanting a solution from @Square and not a work around.

I am shocked this is not and a warehouse option yet!! People have been asking for this since 2017.

I am in desperate need of this option!!

I need to be able to transfer in and out of one location. There is no retail sales whatsoever just storage/overstock.
