How to do a return/exchange from a transaction more than a year old
Hello
I had a return/exchange from last year, the customer had the receipt and I found the transaction, but Square would not allow it, I was trying to do an exchange. I can understand not wanting to credit a CC from last year, but not an exchange.
Any suggestions?

Hi @candynkites - Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Square Seller Community👋
Since the transaction is over a year old, you could issue an alternative form of payment to the buyer to complete the refund, such as cash, check, or gift card credit.
I hope this information is helpful but please do let me know if you have any additional questions 🙂

The system would not let me accept the return, so could not create any type of credit. My work-around was to subtract the cost out of a current purchase. Any other way to deal with this?

AH, I understand what you're saying now, @candynkites - you're being prevented from being able to process the refund in addition to not being able to accept the return through the point of sale.
I recommend connecting with the Square for Retail support team so they can offer the best suggestion while keeping your reports in mind. If you haven't already, please reach out directly by logging into your Square account and heading here.
