How do I actually sign up for Square for Retail??

I am begging somebody to help me. I need to be able to generate SKU codes since my squarespace subscription is about to run out and I'm transferring everything over to Square. I have spent hours on the phone with Square's customer service, and am still stuck. I was told I need to have Square for retail Free to generate SKU codes, and to do that, I need to sign up for the $89 a month plan and immediately cancel it (super user friendly, right? thanks, Square). The problem is that every time I try to sign up for Square for Retail, it immediately redirects to my dashboard and never takes me to any page to actually sign up. I still cannot generate codes. I have tried going from the Square for retail home page, the pricing page, the "Get Started Free" button, and direct links sent to my email from Square customer service. Still no retail! Can anybody help me??

You are welcome, @bibi626! I just heard back from our Engineering team and they may have found a workaround.

 

Could you please perform the following steps?

  1. Log into the Square Dashboard

  2. Open the Menu (left panel)

  3. Select 'POS systems' (towards the bottom of the panel Menu)

  4. Choose 'Square for Retail'

  5. Click ‘Start free trial’

  6. Subscribe

This should get it set up properly for you. If not, please let me know.

When I was using the Square Pos system I kept seeing ads to Try Square for Retail.  This was on my Square Dashboard page, and was from 2019.  Alot has changed since I signed up and went through the process.  I just did a Google Search which gave me this article from Square :

I also was given this AI generated response :

Since you already have an Account, I suggest from the Page Square directs you to goto your Square Dashboard and look at Account and Settings Subscriptions and see if you can add Retail or Just  download the Square For Retail app on an Ipad or your current device other than Android.  There is no Android App for Retail that I know of.  There are apps for Retail for the Terminal, Register and Ipad devices.  After downloading the App enter your Square User name and Password for the Account and see what happens, maybe since it is not on the account yet you will get a message asking if you want to Subscribe etc??  I can not see this as I already have Square for Retail.

When you have a moment, would you be able to log out of your Dashboard and try to signing up through the direct Square for Retail website?

 

Keep us posted if any of these suggestions work, and if not I can take another look.

Hi @Sammie_C 

As I said in the original post, when I go to the Square for Retail site and click on any link that should allow me to sign up, I am immediately redirected to my dashboard. I would add screenshots, but it seems I do not have permission to attach images. I had also tried logging out and using an alternate browser (firefox first and chrome second) with the same result. I am immediately prompted to login, and then redirected to my dashboard.

 

Is this because I cannot download the Square for Retail app? I do not have any Apple devices, and if that precludes me from utilizing the subscription that I pay for, I'm going to have to ask for a refund and return to Squarespace 😞 I have been using Square exclusively in person through the regular app for over three years, and Squarespace for online commerce.

 

@Candlestorethanks for your comment. I had checked under my subscriptions page before after being redirected to my dashboard for the fifteenth time to see if Retail was there, and only my regular annual subscription was listed, with no option to include Retail. I have been using the regular Android app for over three years, but the Retail app is not available for Android (makes sense, since only half the world uses the Android OS, right?).

The Retail App is not available on Android devices but there are other features of the retail subscription you can use in your Square Dashboard that are not available with the regular POS app.  I too have android devices and Square Stands so the Ipad version for Square for Retail on the stands.  I agree that Square should make a Retail app for the Android phones and tablets but have no idea why they do not.  Square for Retail through a web browser on a computer you can create SKU's but you can not with the Square for Retail app on a Tablet or Iphone.  I just tried this today for some new inventory I was uploading.  Now on a computer I was able to have Square create SKU's for all items that had no SKU.  That is just one benefit of the Square for Retail plan.  And that feature does not matter if you have an Android or IOS device.  I just do not know why Square makes it so hard to upgrade from POS to Retail now?  I just did what you said and it takes you to your Square Dashboard but no other instructions as how to upgrade from POS to Retail.   You click Contact Sales for more information and all you get is a contact form to fill out.   I wonder why they have no instructions on how to upgrade from POS to Retail.  @JJ_ ; @maxpete   Tag to see if either of you have better instructions on how to Upgrade from POS to Retail?

@bibi626 I understand and apologize for any step repetition. For troubleshooting purposes, I was just wanting to make sure you were logged out before reattempting.

 

I went ahead and attempted to recreate what you described and I am getting the same redirect to the Dashboard on my side. I will go ahead and escalate this over to our Engineering team to take a look. As soon as I hear back from them, I will respond here promptly.

 

If for sure some reason you end up finding a resolution, or the site allows you log in as intended, please let us know. We will try to get this resolved for you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience.

@Sammie_CThat finally worked! Thank you so much! Now when I go to my Subscriptions page, it says that I currently am signed up for the free trial, and that I will be downgraded to Square for Retail Free in a month, which is what I wanted. I just want to confirm that there is nothing I need to do / cancel to continue having Retail Free and not be charged $89 at the end of the month?
