Duplicate GTIN error needed when Importing

I use Square at a Sporting Goods store and import large orders at a time.  If a product (like a patagonia black beanie) already has a GTIN from a previous season, Square will just create a duplicate item with the same GTIN.  It would be great if we could get an update to the error report, that will notify us of Duplicate GTINs we are trying to import so duplicates don't happen.  (lightspeed does this and it makes importing so much more efficient for companies with lots of SKUs.

Square uses a Token when uploading an item that is already in your Items catalog.  Which is sometimes good or bad in your use case.  Problem I have is if you google a GTIN on an item it may come up as two different items.  This was a big issue when Square first changed items based on a GTIN.  Wherever Square searched the GTIN database, a Can of Dr Thunder for example was not populateing in the Square Catalog as a Can of DR Thunder it would show as UPC 07[Redacted] Face Your Fun something for Dog Food.

Now would a Warning that a Duplicate GTIN is already in your Square catalog and show what it is, YES.  Square does this when you create an Item using your Square Dashboard but not when importing you items from another source.

So this brings we to my question on why you keep importing the same Item with the same GTIN as new items?  What is your Process for your ordering?  If you use Squares Purchase Order system you can order from your vendors and you would not have Duplicates.  The other thing is when you Receive items, You can tap Inventory, Scan the Item and enter the Quantity you receive that way.  I have about 10,000 items in my Square Catalog.  So my catalog is not small but I know some businesses have alot more too.  I am trying to understand Why you import your for example patagonia black beanie more than 1 time instead of updating the quantity when you receive the items?

Can you describe your ordering and receiving process?  Square and Lightspeed are 2 different companies and each has their own flaws and benefits.  This is why people choose one over the other.  If both of these would do the samething and have the same features we would not really need both.  Square checks duplicates when you make a new item in Squares Dashboard, but also figures you will not be updateing the same items by importing as new item and  not updating the item by using Squares Token column for exsisting items.
