Clear Receipts that Match Square Apps

So I have a buy 12 get one Free promotion on our Single Scented 28oz Jar Candles.  We have a Punch Card System for this and it works well.  We even have the Square Discounts setup that if a Person buys 13 candles at once the automatic Discount of 1 free appears and works fine.  On the Printed Receipt it shows a random candle that is charged $0.00 which is fine because people can see it was Free.  The Problem comes when we add our $ discount which is equal to the price of a Candle.  The Dollar Discount shows on our Square Stand as Free Candle -$20.99 Discount or whatever the wording is at the bottom of the receipt about where the Subtotal and Tax is applied.  This looks great and Simple to understand.  Then I press Print for the Printed Receipt and BAMMM everything goes to complete confusion....Small dollar amounts off of every Item.  Even Items that the Discount really is not being applied to.  Then the customer asks where is the Free Candle?  And every item is marked down a little bit so that the discount adds up to that total.  I hope!!!  So then I need to break out a calculator to show that all the discounts add up to the total of the Dollar amount, hope for no rounding errors!!!   Why can't the Printed Receipt match the Receipt on the Square Stand???  I tried following another tip or workaround to scan an Item and press a $$ amount discount.  This does not work since you can not place a Dollar Discount on an Item by selecting the item only % off discounts.  When I go and ring up a sale and the receipt I am seeing on the Square stand in plain and simple, but the Printed receipt is confusing to everyone seeing it, how do I show confidence that it is correct!!!!

I am attaching two links, Link 1 is a short 14 second video showing the Square Stand Image with the $ discount near the bottom under TOTAL and nice and easy explanation.  Link 2 is the chaotic receipt I gave my customer, I reprinted a copy for myself scanned it and removed private Info.

My question is WHY???  Have Square print out the Receipt WE business owners SEE, not this garbled mess!!!

Agree here with @Candlestore ! This would be better for my customers too! I believe the printed receipt show this for this reason...(maybe)...if the customer would return any item on the receipt, then the refund amount would not be the full price, but the reduced price as a means to make up the difference for getting the free item.

Kinda related...I've seen something similar with other retail stores like Old Navy and Banana Republic; their receipts show each item discounted if I use a coupon or reward. I've gotten an almost free shirt or something by using their rewards online where the item is $30, and with a reward redemption my cost goes down to something like $2.50. If I return that item in store, I only get back the $2.50 (thus losing the reward I used to get the discount.) but they don't want to give me back the full $30. Not sure if this is the approach Square is taking here by spreading discounts out. I'd like to have the choice since I almost never get returns from my customers anyway.

Hello there @Candlestore @HC_Charlie ,

Another great call out! Thank you for providing those samples of the receipts @Candlestore it really helps. And @HC_Charlie for your feedback and input as well. You are right we do want to show everything in case of returns so there is no confusion about the amount being returned. But I agree that printed receipts aesthetically are not pleasing and I can certainly see how customers can get confused. When more information on this feature request becomes available we will make sure to update this thread. Again thank you guys for always providing such valuable feedback! 😊
