Can a customer sign up for loyalty without a transaction? Can I add loyalty points to their profile?

I'm thinking of adding the loyalty program and have a few questions.  Its looks like the customer enrolls at POS or online store at purchase.   

 

Can they sign up without a transaction? 

Can I add points to their account, e.g. 50 points for liking us on Facebook?

 

I ask these questions because I'd like to send an email through marketing asking them to sign up?

Hey @TrekVitality! These are great questions. The answer to both of your questions is yes. I will elaborate below. 

 

You are able to enroll your customers during a purchase, or directly from your online Square Dashboard.

 

To enroll your customers during a purchase:

 

  1. Process a sale the same way you normally would.
  2. After the sale has been completed and your customer has passed the receipt screen, they’ll reach the Loyalty Screen.
  3. Your customer enters their 10-digit phone number to opt-in to your loyalty program.
  4. They’ll receive an SMS indicating they’ve been enrolled and, if applicable, earned their first star, along with a link to view their loyalty program status.

To enroll your customers from your Customer Directory:

 

  1. Head to the Customers section of your online Square Dashboard or Square app.
  2. Select or create a customer profile.
  3. Under the Loyalty section, click or tap Create Account.
  4. Enter the customer’s mobile phone number > Save.

If you'd like to give them a chance to invite them to sign up on their own, you can set up a Loyalty campaign/promotion from the Online Dashboard:

 

 

To edit a customer’s point count, locate their customer profile from your online Square Dashboard or the Square Point of Sale app and assign the correct number of points.

 

From the Square app:

 

  1. Tap Customers > Search for your customer by name or phone number.
  2. Tap Edit next to their Loyalty status and adjust points using the + / - signs.
  3. Tap Save.

From your online Square Dashboard:

 

  1. Sign in to the Customers section of your online Square Dashboard > Directory.
  2. Search for your customer by name or phone number.
  3. Under Loyalty, click Edit above the status bar and adjust points using the + or - signs > Click Save.

I also had this question and I have tried the email marketing route mentioned above. However it does not provide a path for customers to enroll in the program. It only has a template that announces the program. There is no call to action, link or other flow for a customer to do anything in that email campaign. However I found a link that does allow a customer to enroll or check their status by going to Loyalty > Marketing > Other. In there is a section called Online Marketing and provides a unique link that will allow a customer to check status or enroll!

Thanks for the heads up, the link to the online marketing portal is great I just wish the site matched the layout you use for the rest of your online site.

 

Kind of weird that it goes to such a bland white page.
