Can a Square Register Be Stored Too Long?

I look after a church fundraiser that sells a lot of fireworks in the corner of a popular super market parking lot. There is power but no hardwired connection to the Internet. We rely on a wireless, cellular connection to the Internet to do our Square transactions. We started having some trouble with our Square Register this selling season. Freezing up and losing it's connection to the Internet. I know that the lost Internet connection is not necessarily a problem with the Register. I mention it because, we had no problems with the register last year. Anyway ... my question in this thread regards what might happen if the Register is stored for 11 months of each year. Is that a problem? Most computer equipment, certainly desktop computers, have a CMOS battery that, if depleted, can create serious issues. Does the Square Register have a CMOS battery that would not like to go uncharged for 11 months of each year? Are there any other parts of the Register that rely on being connected to power on a regular basis?

Hi there, @LRF 👋 Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Seller Community! Happy to hear from you again!

This is a great question. The Square Register should be able to be dormant for as long as you need without experiencing any long standing issues. The only caveat here is that when you begin to use your Register after a prolonged period of storage, we would recommend ensuring that the device is running its more current and up-to-date software. We periodically push out new software that helps quell software issues and glitches that are produced form previous versions. It sounds like the issues you are experiencing currently can be stemmed from older software.

Here is a helpful guide to making sure your software is up to date.

Let us know if this gets you where you need to be! If you have any clarifying questions, feel free to shoot me back a reply!
