Can I give cusomers the option to save their card on file from my online store?

I would love to do a subscription box from our online store without having to send an invoice the first time. Is this possible? Is there an option to save your card while in checkout from the website? If so, would I then just instruct people to mark the box so I could set up a reoccurring payment?

Hi @Jayceelane, I'm looking through our posts that have gone unanswered and I'm sorry you never received a response! 

There isn't currently a way to set up a subscription in this way, but I can see how that would be useful. For the time being, recurring payments do need to be set up through invoices. Thanks for the suggestion, don't hesitate to follow up with us if there's anything further we can do to help.

Is there any plan to add this as a feature? Automating the subscription service such that a person can opt to have recurring payments (or only sell as a recurring service)  vs. having to send an invoice would be very useful.

I am also looking for a way for customers to sign up for subscription via my website.

I am hoping to get hundreds of customers, and manually inputting their data into a recurring invoice would be impossible. Is there any way customers can purchase a "subscription item" that recurs monthly until cancellation?

@MattMac No updates on this request for now. To set up recurring subscription payments you would have to use Square Invoices. I'll share your request with the Online Store teams, I do see how being able to subscribe online would speed up the process for you and your customers!

Hello, I am also curious about this. Being able to set up reoccurring payments through my online store would be amazing. Right now it's the big thing and can generate a lot of income. My fellow makers that are utilizing Shopify can do it. I would love to have this option.  Perhaps it's already an option and I just don't know about it yet. Hello @jes23 -We hear you and understand how this would be helpful for your customers. As of right now, the best workaround is to send out a recurring invoice and save your customer's card information to auto-charge them.

My partner and I opened up a small shop in our hometown during the Pandemic. We chose to use Square because it seemed to have the most user friendly features.

During this time, membership is more important than ever, and it's a big way people are creating community in a time where social distancing and lack of human contact in general is taking its toll on all of our minds and bodies. It is deeply frustrating to have been under the impression from a square representative that this was something we could use through our website. We have come to understand that it is not. 

We may have used a different platform if we would have know this was the case. It's hard to understand with the amount of money we see going towards our square transactions that something like Membership would be on the back burner given what Square hopes and promises to offer. It is a highly in demand request these days. It needs to be addressed asap please.

What kind of membership features were you looking to use with a website? With a Square Online store you can sell membership items, and with Square you can also separately set up subscription payments.

Not a problem! What you'll want to do is create an item within Square Online, then choose "membership" as the type. Once a customer has purchased the initial membership with that, you can then set them up with recurring payments through your Square account for subsequent purchases.
