offline mode Square Register for Restaurants

Using Square for restaurants on Square Register with customer facing display. 

When in Offline mode can I still take all payments through the customer-facing display?  

If only magstripe cards (swipe):  does this mean that chip cards (dip) can't be used or can I still take payments with chip cards using the magstripe?

In offline mode, you're only able to swipe cards, whether they have a chip or just a magnetic stripe. 

However, the chip reader itself will not work. In other words, dipped payments cannot be processed.
