fraudulent charge backs

Hi Community,

I received 4  x $15.00 chargebacks in a row.  They were keyed in and it said for loading gift cards.  These were fraudulent charges.  They are not even part of my daily sales.  How is this possible. Is there a fraud department at square.  I disputed them, but want the community to know about this.  How are they able to create a fraudulent receipt and ask for a chargeback when the amounts don't match my sales or receipts? why is square not doing anything about this?  I'm extremely frustrated that square doesn't deal with the fraud it is easy to prove they are not even from the day in question.  Sellers beware if you get a chargeback that says "keyed in" and small amounts of money all in a row.  I don't want any of you to go through this hassle.

Hi @Athena1928.  First, is it possible that you have eGift cards enabled on your account, and didn’t realize it?  To check, go to your dashboard -> Gift Cards -> eGift Cards -> Configure.  If you have online eGift card sales enabled and don’t want that, toggle it off.

If it’s already off, are you saying that you received an email from Square with chargebacks?  And you checked your dashboard to confirm there were deductions for the chargebacks in your Balance?

I receive frequent spam emails claiming to be from Square that aren’t.  I check the sender’s email address and it is never a squareup.com address.  As long as your account balances haven’t been charged, then I wouldn’t worry about it.  If they have, you should get on the phone with customer support on Monday and get to the bottom of this.  Trust me, Square doesn’t do a chargeback without a transaction to post it to.  Ever.
