[US Only — Need Beta Testers] Add "combo" functionality

We'd love to have the ability to build combs in Square for restaurants.  We see it working something like this..

1) assume a full inventor of items already in system (drinks, food, etc)
2) a new section in items called "combos" is added
3) create new combo, give it a name - ex "Breakfast Sandwich w/ Coffee"
4) when you "build" this combo, you pick items from your existing item library - ex, Breakfast Sandwich, fruit bowl, coffee.
5) show the calculated combo price (the sum of the items)
6) allow us to apply % or $ discount to combo (combos are always cheaper then the sum of the items)
7) save combo

In POS, when this combo is selected...
1) it automatically adds the respective items to the check under the combo name.
2) any "item conversations" remain in place b/c the combo button is essentially a quick way to add multiple items to check w/ one button press.
3) item printer routing remains in place

By doing it this way, we can keep a neater item library and we get proper tracking of items sold.  ex - coffee sold, by combo or al-la-carte, would produce an accurate count.

Thoughts??

Re: Add "combo" functionality

Hi all - I'm Hadley, I work on the Square Restaurants product team. Thank you all for the great feedback and requests for Combos. I wanted to share that we are starting a Beta program to offer Combos functionality. It is for Square for Restaurants Plus POS users in the US to start but will soon expand to other channels, counties and tiers.

If you think you'd be a fit for the beta at this time, or are interested in learning more, please join the Beta Program. You can request to join through this link: https://www.sellercommunity.com/t5/Combos/gh-p/Combos#_=_

Thanks!

YES!!!! Need the ability to build combos. Square are you listening? I am ready to jump ship!

I'm looking for this feature too.

For example, if a user clicks "Combo #1" a bundle that comes with burger, fries, and drink.

The output to the KDS/Printers will print three separate line items: "Burger", "Fries", "Drink".

Right now, it just prints as a single item "Combo #1" and the only way it displays is by changing the modifiers or by changing the name of the product.

Does this feature exist in Square for restaurants?

For our restaurant we offer a Prix-Fixe dinner bundle/combo that comes with Salad, Entree, Dessert.

Normally (A la carte):

Salad - Appetizer Category - First Course

Entree - Entree Category - Second Course

Dessert - Dessert Category - Third Course

To bundle these three items for pricing purposes, we created this as one item.

When the bundle is selected and sent to the kitchen KDS/printer, it only appears as one ticket item "Prix Fixe".

The kitchen spends extra (unnecessary) time communicating with each about when to fire an item.

Although it's a bundle, we would like to be able to course parts of the bundle.

The appetizer part of the bundle should go to the appetizer station's printer.

The entree part of the bundle should be on hold until fired by staff and then go to the entree station's printer.

The dessert part of the bundle should be on hold until fired by staff and then go to dessert station printer.

@Square Bumping this request - 6 months and its still marked as "NEW".

I could use this for my spa too!  Selling gift baskets is a pain to keep track of.  I have to take the items out of inventory, build the basket and then add the basket to the inventory.  Then, reverse the process if there is only one item left to sell and someone wants it out of the basket.

@Doran There is a beta test going on now for item bundling in Retail Plus or Retail Premium.  Here is the link.  Maybe it would work for you?  Obviously, it won’t work for Restaurant/POS sellers.

@Square PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN!

Hey @BistroSupport 👋 Thank you so much for submitting this Feature Request!

I've updated it to the "Open" status. This step in the Feature Request process will be a time in which other sellers can add their use cases to your idea to make it stronger and demonstrate further how much it is needed. Later on, we'll re-visit the most popular feature requests in the "Open for Votes" status and bring them to product teams.

To other sellers that see this feature, please “like” the post and reply with a use case that your business would have. This will help to signal that this feature request is even more important to address.

We have 3 restaurants and often participate in restaurant weeks and "prefix" menus which are 3-4 course options. Each customer can order from a set list of choice of 1 out of let's say 5 appetizers, 1 out of 6 entrees and 1 out of 3 desserts and it comes out to a fixed price. Or the option of 2 apps, 1 entree and 1 dessert for another price.

However, we'd want the tracking to continue to be included in the overall # of purchased X appetizers.

Maybe include a report filter of including bundles in the original item OR separating bundles as it's own "category".
