Slow POS transaction drawer opening since latest update

Since the latest update, the face of the POS is different. Two days later, we are experiencing FIVE FULL SECONDS before the drawer opens. Is anyone experience this too? Any troubleshooting if its just a reset of equipment?

I certainly want to make sure this delay with the cash drawer gets resolved as well. To get a better idea of what is going on please answer some follow-up questions below.  I will keep an eye out for your reply!

 

1. What Square device are you using?

2. What app version are you on? 

3. What brand and model cash drawer do you have? 

4. Can you provide a video of what you are experiencing

I’ve been trying to get resolution on this issue for a few weeks now. Square is denying this is a problem and saying it is normal. It’s not and it needs fixed.

After a lengthy and rather frustrating series of troubleshooting calls with Square support, I was informed last week that this is a known issue and work is being done to correct the problem. No timeline on when to expect that resolution.

 

In the meantime, I have three POS locations that function at a snail's pace as we enter our busy season. We ran 320 transactions yesterday with an average delay of 5 seconds for that cash drawer to trigger, as well as the newly-occuring card processing delay of approx 3-5 additional seconds, which comes up to almost 30 minutes of time lost just to ring transactions.

 

Maybe a refund or discount in processing fees should be considered? Nah, that'll never happen.

I have resorted to leaving the key in the drawer to pop it manually since it’s just me, my husband, and our kids working in our establishments. (In other words, theft isn’t a concern.) During peak busy times, the drawer is popping back open as we are greeting the next customer in line.  (We just push it closed and keep it moving)

Yes this is very much still a problem. We leave the key in the drawer to manually open it when someone is constantly at the front counter. Otherwise, we just have to wait the awkward silence until it opens.

Here is another thread of this issue and I just Updated Sunday and it worked for me then but we just got another update today.... is it working or broken????? IDK  Here is the link to the thread where I had this working as of Square version 6.44.1 I believe.  Not sure which version your running for your Square version.

Putting the Square Version in your text may help figure out if you have the newest or an older version that has this issue.  One stand showed no updates and another showed 1 was avaliable even though both were on 6.44.1 001 I believe.

I checked for updates how I normally would, and it just said "open" where it would normally say "update", but I touched it to open the details of the app listing and it said "update" in there! I did the update and it is working now!! Pops right open when you press the dollar amount!!
