Refund by Item and Automatic Gratuity

Hello,

We are currently experiencing some issues with the refund and auto gratuity functions. We use two integrations to import sales into another application and to manage tips, and as a result our refunds must be done by item instead of amount, otherwise it causes failures in our integrations.

 

The issue we have run in to is that when an automatic gratuity is enabled for the transactions, we are unable to refund by item and also refund the percentage of the automatic gratuity that was added to the check. The only way to do this is in a separate refund transaction to refund by amount, which causes problems with our integration in terms of taxes, reported tips, revenue allocation, etc. It causes a lot of extra work for our accounting department any time a refund has to be made like this.

 

I was actually surprised to see that Square does not account for this. This seems like a defect in the way refunds and percentage based automatic gratuities are handled. Is there any solution to this or a possibility of a fix for this in the near future?
