Printer turns off when iPad "sleeps"

We have the option for our customers to order online. When they do, a ticket auto prints from iPad. The only problem we've run into is that when the screen on iPad goes to sleep, the tickets stop printing. Is the following the only solution of keeping app open and allowing those tickets to print?

 Go to device's iOS Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto Lock > Never.
