Pickup Time Default

We're running into an issue that I hope has a workaround and any help would be appreciated.

People are placing pickup orders outside of our open hours (Currently only Fri/Sat 3-8PM).

The option to select the pickup time is not immediately obvious to them (It does require a couple clicks to get get to.)

They breeze through the checkout and the default is the soonest available time.

This leads to us collecting orders all week that say "For Pickup at 3:15PM Friday" (We have a 15 minute prep time selected.) And I have to call everyone that says 3:15 and find out when they actually want to pickup.

I realize this is mostly on the customers but has anyone found a better way to handle this situation that saves me the time of making a dozen or so calls every Friday and Saturday? Thanks!

Matt

Hey @SapHouseMeadery,

I reached out to the Weebly team and they suggested toggling off accepting online orders when you're closed.

You can do this under Settings > Checkout.

Hmmm... That would certainly solve the issue but there's a lot of value in being able to accept orders all week. I'm not sure what percentage of the people that order mid-week for weekend pickups would still order if they had to remember to wait until Friday to place the order. A big part of the business is marketing and actively trying to collect those orders through-out the week. Any other thoughts?

So I run a juice bar and we kind of run into a similar 'problem.'  With our reduced hours we went from a 24 hour order window to a 48 hour advance notice window. I find right now MANY. more people than normal automatically go with soonest available pick-up time. Which will be opening time in two business days. To be honest I never call to follow up, I leave it and find most people arrive that day but almost always a little later. We do have the order ready for that day at the time they requested. If they don't show up by close we call the next day and leave a message.

I know its not ideal, but this is really a user error on the customers end. I have some people who even place the orders and show up immediately looking to pick it up and we have to explain thats not how it works...

We actually run into a very similar issue because we like accepting orders ahead of time, but customers don't realize that they have to select a time, and they often times call and either say they don't know how to place an order for a different time/date or they call and ask us when their pickup order is ready because it "didn't tell them." I do think a lot of it would be avoided if people read the fine print, but the reality is that pickup time should be selected before they checkout, and it shouldn't automatically pick the soonest time available. In fact, I'd prefer to not have an ASAP option, and have them always have to select a time so they understand that's when their pickup order is ready.

This is definitely a very poor UI for customers and create a lot of confusion.

There should not be a default to ASAP.

We receive 20 phone calls a day from confused consumers on why we would offer them to pick up on a weekday the weekend dinner.

I see that this problem has been ongoing for the past four years, which is not encouraging.  Of the pre-orders that I printed this evening for tomorrow, 75% of them have specified in order notes a pickup time that is contrary to the one that was assigned.  Customers just don't see the small print at the top of the screen directing them to change/select a pickup time.  In fact, it looks like you are asking them to change locations.  The selection of a time is critical.  It should be in your face just as it is with the major grocery store chains that offer pickup.  Default times, or first available times, or ASAP, are useless in my business.  The very first screen that should open without prompting should be for pickup time selection.  That way I am preparing orders fresh before pickup and I won't have a pile of orders lingering until the customer chooses to show up.  Please don't ask me to put this into "features request" because I have tried and I cannot find it or any responses to it.
