We have a health food retail store that has been opened for years. Recently, we opened a Cafe inside the retail store. We moved from another POS system to Square because of the versatility within Square that allowed for both needs. This is very similar to your situation. We are very happy with our move to Square.

Hey Javasprings.
We have been using QuickBooks POS for our retail store since we opened in 2013. It worked well, except for our Saturday Farmer's Market stand. We were constantly running into issues using a remote selling platform through QuickBooks POS. When we decided to open a Cafe along with our retail operation, we initially used QuickBooks POS; however, multiple issues arose which forced us to look at alternate POS formats. We have had a Square account for a number of years, but only used it as a back-up or for our Saturday Market sales. After researching a number of options, we decided to give the Restaurant POS a try. Although there have been a few hiccups, we liked the set-up with Square and have decided to move everything over to Square, including Payroll.
Our operation consists of standard retail products as part of our retail store - for which we use the UPC scanner to enter or use a unique product number we imported from Quickbooks POS. We also have a bakery counter where we sell freshly baked cakes, cookies, etc. This was added when we opened the Cafe where we prepare food, such as burgers, salads, sandwiches, appetizers, drinks, etc. We also sell coffee, latte, mocha, cappuccino, and hot teas. The food and coffees require modifiers to place the orders. We are using Square Restaurant to handle al of this. Our only problems so far have been in getting Square Restaurant to recognize the UPC codes and in trying to get Square Restaurant to allow us to sell weighted items (such as meats, cheeses, fresh seafood, fresh produce, and other items that we sell by weight). Although other versions of Square support sales by weight (like .456 pounds of corned beef), Square Restaurant does not. We are having to back out of Restaurant and make these sales in Square Retail for now.
All-in-All we are very happy with Square Restaurant (with minimal use of Square Retail) for our store, cafe, market POS.

"The food and coffees require modifiers to place the orders."
What do you mean by modifiers?
"Our only problems so far have been in getting Square Restaurant to recognize the UPC codes"
Have you found a solution?
"We are having to back out of Restaurant and make these sales in Square Retail for now."
Is this the solution everytime you have to scan an item?
Backing out.... how do you do this and is it time consuming?
Right now my needs are scanning with UPC codes for retail and a need to print order tickets to another printer for coffee orders.
All together per customer and give them a receipt. Im not so sure I need all of square for restaurants.. wondering if the POS would work stand alone.

Like anything there are good and bad parts of Square. There are some industry-specific POS systems that sometimes have more (or better implemented) features. Square, being a generic solution, often requires some working-around but it has a pretty decent feature set.
MUNBYN IZP052 touch screen POS Hardware Manufacturers is a powerful and versatile point of sale solution that combines cutting-edge technology with ease of use. Its compact design and intuitive interface make it an ideal choice for businesses looking to streamline their operations and enhance customer service.
