Incorrect “failed to print” notification constantly popping up on iPad

“Print job failed to print” in red on the bottom of the iPad screen. Cannot stop this notification. It appears with every single order and we have to push ‘x’ to close it out. We’re closing this notification constantly at all 4 Square for Restaurant stands. This issue appeared about a week ago (late November 2023).
We don’t have any problems printing at any printers. I tried turning off notifications for the app. This did not help.

I can also report that we are now experiencing this at at least one of our restaurant locations. It is constant and annoying and I have not been able to locate anything to fix it in my troubleshooting.

Hello there! Have any of you here reached out to our Square for Restaurants Support team? This sounds like a great question for them to look into and escalate if necessary.

Hello, my company is also experiencing this issue. I have not contacted the Square for Restaurants help line for a couple of reasons, one being that our corporate office supports this location remotely, another being that they only offer phone support (which given the remote support, this is not ideal), and third they have historically been unhelpful in the past. But I can confirm I have remoted on to the device, verified all print settings are configured correctly, and that there are no printers showing failed print jobs in the hardware section. This is only occurring at one of our locations, however they are also the only location that is using a KDS. But it does occur on every device at this location.

Oh boy. This was a very frustrating issue that was never fully resolved. Ultimately you will have to dive into your printer settings and find the "ghost" printer that is not connected or possibly has been renamed in the wrong way. We have four POS and at least ten printers and somehow the Square updates found an unused printer (it may have been renamed, IDK) and set off a series of errors. I recommend going into your hardware settings and confirming that every printer is correctly labeled and deleting any printers AND printer profiles that are extra. You will have to do this on all your POS (iPads) and also double check from the dashboard.  It's possible someone else has an easier solution.

@JuliaAtOMF ;

Since you were told to look for Ghost printers etc.  You can log in on your Square Dashboard - Device Management - then choose Device or Printer Profiles and look for Devices Printers that are not connected or do not have Printers associated.  This may help you locate the Ghost Printer or miss Named printer quicker that looking on each POS device.

I only have 1 Receipt printer and have not had this issue in a while.  My issue was When Square Updated and went to these printer Profiles and that is when I Lost my receipt printer and got it back in a few hours.

Good Luck these electronic Gremlins are a PITA!!!
