Hello @melinda2 !

The Star SP 700 impact printer is the one square recommends for a high heat kitchen environment, but from what I can tell it’s an Ethernet only printer. You can a,ways use one of the Star TSP 100 thermal printers if you can protect the tickets from going black.

For a food truck, though, I recommend taking a look at one of the Kitchen Display Systems Square has partnered with. I use the Fresh KDS product, which loads on any recent tablet and acts just like a printer to Square.

I looked at the KDS app but it says you need a strong wifi. On a food truck you normally don't have wifi. 😞

Our custom Square KDS works off a cell or data signal and works great remotely. 

It'll work on any device - Android or iOS, phones or tablets and saved one of our clients today who forgot it was automatically installed in her custom Square Mobile App...

So many of her customers have been making longer Order Notes and she needed to see all of the notes, which our KDS displays (ours is the one on the right in the image below).

We looked at KDS for our MFB it didn’t do what we thought it would. Also, the tablet in the kitchen area stayed dirty from scrolling with gloves on.

Ok, so we've solved the dirty KDS screen issue (from people having to touch it with gloves on or food on their hands, etc.). We just created the world's first voice-activated KDS. Yep, you read that right! Note: We're an official Square Partner Company.

To ryanwanner- How does it "act just like a printer"??  It isn't a printer.  Nothing prints from the KDS.

I’ve been interested in the Fresh KDS system for my food truck. Do you use it for a food truck or a kitchen in a building? The Fresh KDS site states it won’t work with a hotspot. I have a cellular iPad with the Square stand and hub that currently connects two printers and a cash drawer. The iPad would have to be turned into a hotspot for the other devices to connect to it. The only other workaround would be to put a router on the food truck.

I used to use printers on my food truck. The the issues in summer with thermal paper, buying paper, keeping to the truck safe and clean… I switched to Fresh KDS and never looked back. I do digital receipts only and print „print“ my tickets to 2 iPads.

I went completely ticket less. no need to by paper then it gets too hot and the thermal paper you throw away etc... I send all my order using FreshKDS to an Ipad and works perfect with square.
