I am looking for help on building the menu from the ground up, but there is a catch.

I am writing as the newly hired manager for our establishment which is a private social club, with a restaurant and bar. We also host special events as a venue for members or the club itself.
Coming in, I noticed that the Square system needs a complete overhaul from how it was set up previously. From what I can tell, it has been set up under Square POS or Square For Retail, and our menu items are an absolute mess. Mess as in, multiple items named the same thing, over 60% of items in the inventory list, and miscoded or mislabeled items. There are currently 954 items in the catalog list when exporting to excel. We do not have that many inventory items on our menu between the bar and the restaurant.

This is my first time using Square in either capacity, so I am learning the UX process, although it seems super user friendly! I have wanted to undertake the challenge of moving things over to use Square for Restaurants, and it seems like a lot of the items are linked between the two programs or apps under our "Location" or Square account. I am still learning the correct verbiage. When I go in to start making any edits or changes, it sometimes affects the POS process we have been using when customers order food or drink items. I want to kind of take my time in creating the new and cleaned up Square for Restaurants menu, but I don't want to make anything difficult for the waitresses and bartenders in the meantime with changing things as they are still using the previous app and POS process.

Because things are linked, but the Square POS/for Retail items are a total mess, what is the best way to go about creating my menu "from scratch" in Square for Restaurants? What steps should I take so I am not making more work than necessary for myself?

Ideally I would love a one-on-one Zoom meeting with a Square rep if possible, and really dive in to figure things out with a demo where I can use my current account and ask questions.

Thank you in advance!

@gi-liederkranz It would be beneficial to know how the order flow is currently. Are all items a button on the POS or is your team having lookup items? & How did you affect the order flow when making changes?

I would recommend getting a demo for sure. I would fill out the form below to do so! New to Square? Connect with our Sales team. (squareup.com)

My thoughts are this!

It is going to be a time consuming process from what I hear you saying.

I would ask the sales team if they can help migrate you over to Restaurants POS. This should move the items you already have in your system to Restaurants. Then you could go through and delete whats not needed and fix any issues
