Discounts on specific items for a specific group of people

We rolled out a VIP discount program.  VIPS's get $2 off all items in a specific category.  Is there a way to do this?  Right now, it looks like I can either give VIPs discounts on everything or give everyone discounts on that category.  Ideas?

@hooverdlh the only way I could think of doing it would be a coupon system. You could make a coupon for 2.00 for a certain category and give you VIP customers the coupon code. This way they code use the code for online or in person sales. Since you are just starting the promotion, you could use the last 4 digits of each customers phone number, that way you could track how many times each customer uses the discount and it would keep someone standing behind that person in line overhearing the code and trying to use it for themself.

I can’t think or any other ay to do it, I wish I could be more help. Maybe someone else’s has a better solution.

Thank you!  I'm going to see if I can make that work.  I've never used coupon codes, so I'll see what I can do.

Thank you.  I set up the coupon.  I see where the server can add the code, but I don't see where a customer can enter the coupon code.  I am using an iPad on a Square Stand.  Is there something I need to turn on?

If the purchase is made in person, they would give the server the code and the server would enter it, if it is online, the customer can tap coupon and enter the code into the text field.
