Can I connect my Square Terminal to Square for Restaurants?

So I just bought the Square Terminal and have been using it for almost two days. And I don't know if I'm doing this right but I use Square for Restaurants and when I close a check, I go over to the terminal and do what needs to be done. Is there a way to connect the terminal to the Square for Restaurant app so when I hit pay bill on the iPad, it will automatically have the terminal ready in any case the customer wants to pay with card. I know there is another app for that but I want to stick to one app only and don't want the to go specialists going from one app to the other back and forth.

Hi @saajose1997. There are two answers to this, if I’m understanding your question correctly.

  1. The Square for Restaurants iPad/Register app does not currently connect to Terminal to accept payments on it.  Unless something changed in the last month or two (I’m a seasonal business and currently closed), Terminal can only be used as a payment device from the Square POS app currently.
  2. You can configure your Terminal as a Square for Restaurants Terminal.  Then, when a customer is ready to pay, your employees can pull up the saved check for that customer and go through the payment process.  Hear a link to an article about setting up a Restaurants Mobile POS that describes the process for setting up and using this.  Before I closed for the season last year, I set this up and found it to be quite usable and friendly — better that the larger format Square for Restaurants, in my opinion.  In fact, I am pretty sure that mobile Terminals will be my only POS hardware this year.

I believe those are your only options currently.  And, if I misunderstood what you were asking, feel free to reply back and I’ll try again!

Regards,

Chip

Hi @saajose1997 - Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Square Seller Community👋

If you are just wanting to close out the tickets that you opened through Square for Restaurants on your other device, you should be able to do so if you enable the Open Tickets feature on your Terminal. You'll just need to be signed into the same Square account on both devices.

It's worth noting that the feature that @TheRealChipA mentioned, Square for Restaurants mobile POS, is priced at $50 per month per location and is only available on the Square for Restaurants Plus subscription plan.

I hope this information is helpful but please do let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks, @_Violet.  It’s always worth noting extra costs for extra POS devices, as well as tier requirements.  I appreciate you making that known!

Also, thanks for the third option.  Sometimes I can’t see the forest for the trees, as it were.  Indeed the regular Terminal software works just fine to retrieve and pay a ticket.  I’ve done it many times in the past!  Duh… LOL

No worries, @TheRealChipA! Always good to lay out all the options. It is difficult to keep track of all the ins and outs of what can and cannot be done across software and devices 😵💫

So I'm already paying 60 per month plus another 40 if I add more POS through the restaurants plus subscription plan. Are you saying it's also going to cost me another 50 to have the mobile POS app?
