Beta: Manage your Kitchen Directly with Square KDS, Now Testing

We know your restaurant is looking for the best way to effectively manage your kitchen orders, which is why we have created Square’s first KDS. We’re looking for restaurants to help us test this new product and be part of creating this with your business top-of-mind.

With Square KDS, you’ll be able to view orders from Square for Restaurants, Square Point of Sale, Square Online Store, BentoBox, GoParrot, WooCommerce, Craverm, Chowly, PoppinPay, Ecwid and several others directly on Ipad.

🛑 Stop right there! Before you jump in, let's talk about a few restrictions and limitations. 

Here’s what you need to know:

• Square KDS is only supported on iPads using iOS 13 and above
• We do not currently support Open Tickets/Checks for this Beta
• The KDS app will work alongside your current printer setup
• Not currently available on Square Register (we'll reach out when it's ready)
• We're currently recruiting for US based businesses, but will be opening in other locales soon. Mark your Country if you're interested in testing outside of the US.

Since you're already in the beta group, you can start testing it by heading to the Beta Community> Featured Groups > Square KDS. There's a Get Started post that will help you.

Thanks Anthony!  Excited to be here.  We are using a Square register for POS but will use an iPad Pro for the display.  Is that configuration in scope for the beta?

Yes, that will work. Keep in mind that you'll still need an active Restaurants Plus subscription to use Square KDS.

Does the KDS work with Square Register 2 with Star Printer? It seems to work with my iPad with swival but not the Register. Please advise. thanks

@sungus Thank you for bringing this up! Open check tickets from Square Register are not supported on Square KDS yet but will be very soon. It should work on the next Square Register update.

Any info on how the connection to Woocommerce works w/ the KDS... We've had woocommerce & Square setup together for a few months now... Just now looking into the KDS, but aren't seeing our online woocommerce orders show up there... ? thanks...;)

Hey @wiltshirett. At the moment, it works with our Delivery and Order partners list but not with WooCommerce from our eCommerce partner list. 

Let me go ahead and share feedback with your team since I do see that you take food orders on WooCommerce. Let me know if you have anymore feedback!

Why even introduce this if it's not compatible with Square Register? I mean, you charge $800 for the register and then claim you can use the software on a $200 iPad but not your own hardware. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE my Square Register and look forward to using it a future brick & mortar, but it seems odd you'd offer these great hardware options then drop the ball on software compatibility with the systems you provide. When can we expect more integration?

Hi @smoky7115 thank you for writing in. Today, the Square Register hardware is intended as a front of house solution for the Point of Sale. Square KDS is compatible with the Point of Sale on Square Register and will display all orders. 

Your feedback is valuable to our product team and we will definitely keep this in mind as we evaluate further optionality for hardware solutions for Square KDS.
