App redesign : how to display the inventory on the item tiles

Hi, this is my first post after trying to resolve a problem via every other way.

the new square for restaurant version while cleaner looking has removed the ability to show remaining stock on the items corresponding button. i have tried chat but whoever was on the other end did not support square for restaurant. I tried calling and the person i spoke to, while pleasant, was unable to figure out how to resolve our problem. He asked someone else who recommended deleting the app and re-installing. STRANGLY, this almost worked. The app reverted to the old version which allows inventory to be displayed on the button, BUT after logging out and logging back in it updated to the new version. So we tried again to delete and re-install...same thing happened it worked going to old version, but updated itself without request. Very frustrating. It seems as though the whole restaurant version is set up as if we were a regular retailer or hair salon or the such. Any direction on resolving this would be appreciated.

Hi @GTE, thank you for posting and welcome to the Community 🙂.

I'm sorry to hear we haven't been able to resolve your issue yet. I'd be happy to help!

By items corresponding buttons, do you mean the tiles/grid? If you're able to revert to the older app version, would you be able to take a screenshot of what the inventory looks like on the tiles?

I am hesitant to revert as having done so previously required resetting all attached printers as well. In the old old version you could long hold the item tile and pretty simply put the remaining inventory count which would be reflected on that same tile in the lower right hand corner of the tile. We run a variable menu of specials of limited qty in order to avoid waste (and a high COGS). Having this info at ready for servers is important to us. The new version does not provide this info on the tile, and it is much more cumbersome to put inventory amounts in having to go all the way to the item edit via a jump to the DASHBOARD. Again, this set up up probably works well for retailers of most products, but it is a strange change (so called upgrade) for the restaurant business.

Also interested in this issue - has there been any resolution? Will future updates be adding back the item count on the tile for Square for Restaurants?

@Lou8 I have this same issue. The new version requires the item availability at the variation level and we use it at the main level for the item

Hi all, I am a member of the product team at Square and wanted to provide an update. We are working on introducing the old item management functionality into the new POS Redesign. In the meantime, you can revert your devices to the previous functionality to keep using the old item management functionality. You can do this by navigating to Release Manager in Dashboard and selecting "Revert". I've attached a video that may help. Thanks for all the feedback!

Hi there--

Just wondering if this function is ever coming back?  It makes the product less usable for a restaurant that has specials and items that sell out quickly.  Going to the office to update mid-dinner is very clumsy.

I've been trying to find a solution to this since we installed Square Restaurant last week (we've used regular Square for years). I was pretty excited to use the Auto-86 and inventory count on the POS tiles. Neither seem to work. I see no reason to upgrade from the free version of the app.

Hi DESLOCK1, They are still working on the upgrade. I had a long, and good conversation with them a couple weeks ago. They were very keen on getting my concerns addressed. So I trust this issue, plus others we talked about will be resolved.

Please update if you get any news. At this point, I'm not holding my breath that Square has any intentions of solving this.
