Square for restaurants on register

Hi, just got SfR register, thinking it would be a good move to upgrade from iPad. So far, not really impressed, so before I send it back, I’m reaching out to see if it’s just me. 

I expected a lot more bells and whistles…instead I seem to have an iPad menu on the register, I thought I’d be able to have item images of my menu items as tiles, have restaurants plus (apparently that isn’t available on Square’s own hardware?!) be able to customise the screens, get rid of the annoying calculator on the left hand side, use order and inventory widgets etc…but it’s all escaping me at the moment and the help sites are next to useless.

 

I feel like I’ve been sold a dud. Tried to do it out of the box, but that just loads a register like I run a shop. How can I customise it proper and where are the help sites please? And how on earth Square can release software that works in someone else’s device but not their own…with no timeline…beggars belief. Yes, I’m talking about Restaurants Plus not working on their own hardware. Really?

Thank you for raising these @TCV1 and I can definitely appreciate your frustrations.

 

At the moment, only Square for Restaurant Free is available on the Square Register. Our Product team know that many of our sellers are looking to use Square for Restaurants Plus on this device and this is something we are currently working on rolling out. The team are releasing Plus features as we finish engineering work on them, which means there will be new features rolling throughout the year. Currently, the Plus features that are available on Square Register include item availability, table timers and colours, category rollups in sales reports, and live sales. Keep in mind that all Dashboard features, including shared settings and advanced reports are compatible with Square Register. While we don't have a timeline for when all Plus features will be available on the Register, we will share more information as we have them, so please keep an eye on our Product Updates page. I will be sure to share your feedback with our Restaurants team as well.

 

To enable Square for Restaurants Freen on your Register and get access to your menu setup, please check that you're currently signing in with a Restaurants device code. You should have access to both the Order and Item Availability Widget on the Register. It's important to note that you must enable Orders within your device settings on your Square Dashboard to see the Order Manager widget.
