Mark a table as seated but order not taken

Is there a way, using the Square for Restaurants app, to mark that a table has been seated, but their order hasn't been taken yet?

I know a timer will shop up on the table once an order has been taken and sent to the printer, but sometimes we have multiple people seating and taking orders, with limited visibility on some parts of the restaurant, so it would be really handy to have a feature that indicates something like 'someone is sitting on this table but they haven't ordered yet'.

Is there anything that can do this, or an integration we can use as a workaround?

Hey @BenOHTR, that's a great question!

I just had a quick look at the Restaurants app on my own iPad and the feature you are describing is considered a feature request. We can definitely see why it would be useful for you and your business, though! I'll make sure to pass that over to our Restaurants team who will take it on board for consideration.

As for a workaround, you could add a note on the table that has been seated but hasn't ordered yet. To do this:

  1. Go to the table plan on your Restaurants app.
  2. Click a table that has been seated but that has not ordered yet.
  3. Click Actions > Names & Notes.
  4. Add a note specifying that this table has not ordered yet.
  5. Click Save.

The note will display on the right-hand side of the screen when clicking on that table. Once the order has been sent to the kitchen, the note can be removed, if you wish.

I hope this helps. Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you!
