[New] Square Subscriptions now Available on the Square Appointments Point of Sale Mobile App

Hi Sellers!

Now you can offer subscriptions directly through the Square Appointments point of sale mobile app!  This is a great way to sign up your customers at check-out to subscriptions that your business offers. Conversely, you can also cancel an existing subscription. Additionally, you can use Subscriptions to easily look up whether a customer has an active subscription with your business.

How it works

When a customer is at your point of sale, you can offer to subscribe them to an existing subscription plan. You will be able to pick the subscription plan through Square Appointments and then add the customer to the plan. After that, your customer will be billed automatically for the subscription through the chosen payment method (Eg. Card on File or Invoice).

How to get started

You can find the Subscriptions option under โ€œMoreโ€ on the Square Appointments point of sale mobile app. You will also need to create subscription plans through the Square Web Dashboard (you cannot currently create subscription plans through the Square Appointments mobile app). Once plans are created, they will be automatically available on the Square Appointments point of sale mobile app. Find out more on how to create subscription plans through your Square Dashboard.

What does it cost?

Subscriptions is available to anyone using Square Appointments (Free, Plus or Premium) at no additional charge. You will only pay processing fees.

For more information on getting started with Subscriptions, check out our support article.

When did this become a feature only the Plus or Premium tiers could get? Cant find anything on UK product updates. I now see there are legacy subscriptions but no way to edit the prices.

Thanks

Mike

Hi @RetroBay - Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Square Seller Community๐Ÿ‘‹ I'm happy to look into this with you.

As far as I am aware, Subscriptions are available to anyone using Square Appointments (Free, Plus or Premium) at no additional charge. You will only pay processing fees.

Are you not able to access the subscription setup from your end? Could you share a screenshot of what you're seeing on your end?

I'll keep an eye out for your reply!

Thanks for sharing the screenshot @RetroBay!

Looking at the image it seems that youโ€™re trying to create this item in Square Online > Site Items, rather than from the Item Library in your Dashboard. To make site items subscribable, you would need to upgrade your Square Online plan.

The โ€˜get startedโ€™ guide that was shared previously was specific to subscription plans created within the Dashboard. For advice on creating subscriptions via Square Online, you can check out this guide

When you create subscription plans through your Dashboard as opposed to Square Online, you should then see the Subscriptions option under โ€œMoreโ€ on the Square Appointments point of sale mobile app.

When I was creating the subscription through the item library the subscription needed to be attached to an item, so I created an item, tested the subscription with a link and it brought up the item not as a recurring payment but as a one off payment. Will try again and see if I can record the steps or.see if I can get it to work. Thanks for the reply
