Hi sellers,
Today we launched support for Connected Terminal on Square for Restaurants! With this feature, you can use a Terminal as a customer-facing display connected to your iPad POS and make it easier for your customers to pay so you never miss a sale.
Wirelessly connect Square Terminal with your Square for Restaurants POS app on an iPad—this is most useful for bars and restaurants with a till that is out of reach of customers. Connected Terminal will allow you to place the order in the till behind the counter or bar and bring the handheld Terminal to the customer to process the payment. With Connected Terminal, you can view and pay for existing orders, but you cannot take new orders.
Connected Terminal helps you give your customers more visibility when using an iPad POS by showing them the items included in the order and being able to print the receipt.
We hope this helps you provide an exceptional experience to your customers.

Me like!
Out of interest the Restaurant Mobile POS being limited to a single phone is this because of the hardware case for the phone? Will the app install on any android phone and be able to use the touch to pay?

Oh, great questions @Sam_400º! I know at the moment Tap to Pay on Android is limited to Square Point of Sale, Invoices POS, Appointments POS.
With regards to Restaurant Mobile POS being limited to a single phone, let me ask around and see what the reasons might be behind this limitation!

I forgot to share here @Sam_400º ! Tap to Pay is available on Square for Restaurant actually — I missed this when I was chatting to you last. So the Samsung A13 5G will be able to support both Tap to Pay and the Restaurant Mobile Kit.
As to why it is available on one device only, it is the most suitable to support the Kit and the Restaurant Mobile app.

So is that confirmation that it won’t install on any other android phone @tranguyen?
Just thinking to jumping to Android for my work phone with some of the stuff in beta and no knowing if/when Apple will release the tap to pay in UK.

Hi
We've started using the connected terminal this weekend, and it really helps with battery life.
However, it doesn't allow for split payments, on the iPad it just won't allow you to split the bill, for example by 2.
Will a fix be worked on for this, as without it we will have to go back to using it as a stand-alone device.

Hi @SimonH, thanks for posting!
I'm sorry to hear you're not able to use the Split payment option. I'd be happy to look into this for you.
To make sure we cover all basis and eliminate potential causes, would you be able to go through the troubleshooting steps outlined in this Support Centre article?
If you use the Terminal with Restaurant as a standalone, are you able to use the Split Payment feature?
If possible, could you also provide screenshots or a video of the payment process with your current set up?
In the meantime, I suggest using the Split Bill feature, which allows you to separate items from one bill onto a separate bill.

Hi Lou
I have attached the screenshot on what happens when you try to split the payment using the terminal as a connected terminal, this allows split payments when working in standalone mode on the terminal.
Whilst splitting bills work, it is laborious when a guest simply says 'we are going to go halves'
Hopefully it is something that can be rectified.

Hi @SimonH, just taking over for Lou here.
Thanks for the screenshot. I had a look and can confirm that a split tender is not currently available with the Connected Square Terminal at the moment.
'Note: Split tender functionality is not yet supported on Square Terminal connected with Square Point of Sale, Square Retail POS, and Square for Restaurants POS apps. To accept split tender payments, connect a Square Reader to your POS device to complete the payment.
In this case, you would need to use the Split Bill feature, as Lou mentioned, which allows you to separate items from one bill onto a separate bill. - or disconnect from Connected Square Terminal.
I know that this isn't the ideal outcome for your business, but if we have any updates on Spilt Tender becoming available, I'll let you know here.

Hi, I am trying to connect my ipad mini 4 which has Square Restaurant POS installed to my Square Terminal
I follow the instructions and use a device code generated from the ipad and the terminal says installing then connected but when I put a sale through it doesn't give me an option to pay by Square Terminal, I've tried lots of times.
The Square Terminal connects if I connect it to an android tablet.
