Why am I paying for "Owner" on Payroll?

I am a single owner LLC and my name (the owner) is listed as a Team member among the rest of my employees. I am not on payroll, and my name has never been activated on Payroll.  Why has Square been calculating me as a staff member on Payroll and charging me the $5 per month?  I have never paid myself via Square Payroll.  This seems awfully unfair.

Hi @jill6487.  I can’t say for certain how it happened, but somehow (maybe when you were testing???) you added Owner to Payroll.  Square doesn’t add anyone to payroll automatically — it has to be done manually.

You can inactivate any team member from payroll by going to Payroll -> Team.  Click on the Owner team member which is in the list.  Then in the Employment Type box, deselect their role.  This will bring up a window to deactivate that employee.  Just give it today’s date.

Otherwise, unless you actually keyed in hours for Owner when running payroll, Square did not charge you.  I am an active employee (also LLC) in my shop so that I can schedule myself when I make the weekly schedule.  But, since I don’t actually key in hours when I run payroll, I’m not charged for myself.  If you are seeing something different on your invoice, you probably want to contact Square Customer Success and send them the incorrect invoices so that they can make an adjustment.

Let me know if you need any other assistance!

Thanks for your response!  I should have been more clear -- I'm listed under Team, but not under the Payroll Team.  By clicking Payroll->Payroll Team, my name is not there and never has been.  I've never paid myself or activated myself ever on Payroll.  Currently, I see 11 employees listed under Payroll->Payroll Team but my Subscription says I am paying for 12 employees.  That's where the confusion started.  I'll reach out to Square.  Thank you for trying to help!

Having the same issue, and because of that all of my employee tips are going to me (even though I'm ineligible to collect tips and am not on payroll or clocked in). There's no way to remove me. And Square has been incredibly unhelpful with this. Considering switching to another Payroll service because their customer service frankly sucks. Good luck to you.
