Why is my Square Register customer display experiencing intermittent connection errors?

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Customer display intermittent connection error.

For several weeks now, we've had an intermittent error come up with a yellow bar that states the customer display is disconnected. During this time we can't accept credit card payments. It generally resolves after a few minutes but is happening multiple times per shift.

 

Sometimes rebooting helps, but not always. It doesn't seem to be an obvious hardware issue as we've checked all the cords and connections. It's been hindering our business quite a bit, especially when employees don't have any concrete steps to take to resolve the issue. Any suggestions?
