Trouble changing a unit after scanning

We are a liquor store that sells nips (50ml mini bottles). Some of them we offer a special if you get 3. The way I have this set up is to put the barcode number on the per item unit and then make another unit that equals 3 items. When I scan the barcode on the bottle it goes in as an item like normal which is great. When I click on it to change the unit to the 3pk special unit the set quantity option just turns to remove with no option of setting a quantity and adding it to the cart.

 

The only way I can work around this is to put the barcode number on each unit but then it makes scanning a single item tedious because you have to select the unit and then the quantity.

When you say some, how many are we talkin here? I ask because you could set up an automatic discount on certain items. For example, I offer 10% for people purchasing 3 or more products. It is set up in the Discounts tab under Items and taken off your mental plate as another step.

 

Would this be a solution? 

 

If so, here's where to find it:

Dashboard -> Menu Dropdown -> Items

Just below Categories and above Options you'll see Discounts 

 

There's a button in the corner that says 'Create a Discount'

From there, you'll be able to choose if it's an automatic discount or not.
