I have the square pos system and having issues entering part cash and credit transaction. Example customer wants to pay 5 bucks in cash and the rest on credit, the system would not allow me to enter a cash amount less than the amount owed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You need to do a split payment. After you tap Charge, you'll get the Tender screen and in the upper right corner is a button labeled Split Payment. Tap that, then enter the $5 cash payment, and you'll go back to the Tender screen, where you can finish with the credit part of the payment. You can split the payment as many ways as you wish.

This doesn't seem to work for splitting between two credit card payments via the Square Terminal. This only seems to work when splitting between cash and Square Terminal.

To split a payment using Square Terminal:
- Once your customer is ready to pay, tap Charge.
- Tap X, then tap Split Amount.
- Choose to Split by Amount or Split into Equal Payments.
- Select a tender type and complete the transaction.
- Continue processing the additional tender types until the entire sale has been completed.

I understand how to do splits. The request was to be able to select Square Terminal as a payment type. When split is selected, the Square Terminal option is grayed out.

Once you select the split option on your Square Terminal, your customer should be able to insert or tap their card to process the first payment, @bab-jerry. Once processed, the second amount will be displayed and payable. Please let us know what this looks like from your end so we can troubleshoot a bit further!

I can take a screenshot if you like. The terminal option works fine without a split. If we select split, the terminal option is grayed out and only other options such as cash or gift card are available for selection.

Please do send a screenshot @bab-jerry, I did some testing just now and the split tender with two cards on the Terminal worked okay for me, but we might be missing something here. I'll keep an eye out for your response.

We use a connected Square Terminal and you can see that the Square Terminal "Continue" button is grayed out. If we don't do a split, the "Continue" button is available to proceed.

I just confirmed with support that splits are not supported for Square Terminal via a register or Square Payments app. So this is a valid feature request.
In other words, when using a connected Square Terminal, the POS does not support splitting the payment between multiple credit cards from the Payments or Retail side. I haven't yet tried the Restaurant side but I suspect it is different as the ticket is probably split prior to payment.
So when a guest comes to the counter for retail payment, it would be useful to allow the customer to split the charge between two credit cards via the Square Terminal. So that is my feature request.

Just to confirm, are you processing both parts of the split credit card payments on the Square Terminal or are you trying to do the split across the Terminal and a second device (like a Square Stand or Square Register)?

It's as I indicated in the screenshot. We are on a tablet that is connected to the Square Terminal. When the Charge button is pressed, the Square Terminal is available as a form of payment. When we then tap the Split button, the Square Terminal option is grayed out. The Square Terminal is only serving as a connected customer facing device. The tablet (register) is sending commands to the Square Terminal.

Split tender functionality is not yet supported on Square Terminal connected with Square Point of Sale. To accept split tender payments, connect a Square Reader to your POS device to complete the payment.

That approach is not compliant with Visa/MC/Novus/Amex since it would require us to take possession of the consumer's card. Since 2017, card agreements require that we not take possession of the consumer's card which means that a reader attached to the register will not work as a solution. Frankly, this is the whole point of having a terminal facing the customer.
