What do you do with your old hardware?

With the new updated Square Stand coming out next week I thought this would be a good question to ask, what do you plan to do with your old Square hardware? Will you sell it, donate it, or use it as a backup? I've personally given one of my older stands to people just starting out with Square and donated another to a non-profit. When we upgrade to the new stands, I will give one to a new square user that we work fairs with, they have been using a iPhone for sales and have wanted to upgrade. What are your plans?

Hi @Kym2,

While Square doesn’t currently offer a recycling program, we are committed to our carbon neutrality plans, and we appreciate you being conscientious about the disposal of your e-waste.

At this time, we would encourage Sellers to drop off legacy or damaged Square hardware at their local Best Buy, Staples, or e-waste recycling center.

Interesting topic - probably will keep my current Square Stand and iPad - both work fine and my needs are basic - as long as I can process a transaction, I'm good.  (On a different topic, I'm looking forward to the new iPhone 16 in Sept as there's some big enhancements coming.)

We will likely repurpose the iPad for Square Appointments or showing clients reports.

As for the Square Stand.... hmm.... I suppose electronic recycling.

@rtfulk ;

I did not know a new Square Stand is coming out next week.  Do you have a link to this?

I am still using the 1st Gen Stands and have no issues.  People with the 2nd gen had some issues which is why I follow the idea," If its not broken, no need to upgrade."  Now with any rule there are grey areas, like magor improvements.  I liked yhe idea of the built in Dip and Tap reader on the 2nd gen but also hated the idea of needing the mag reader plug in.  For the most part I am happy and have no issues with my 1st Gen stands, so for me I will wait to see the reviews of the new Stand and then make a choice to upgrade or not.

@Candlestore I have preordered and it states it will be delivered on July 23rd. We have used the 2nd gen (lightning connector) for 2 years with no problems.  We are updating because of the usb-c connector and the fact that our iPads are 32GB and Square POS seems to be getting bigger and bigger, it’s time to upgrade.

Here’s the link on square website, it’s available now.

We are using all of our older stands as our iPads still have lightning plugs.  I am wondering what to do with the non-working stands we have.  We have quite a few of those.
