Setting up processing fees n service charges

How can I set the percentage in service charges, to cover processing fees? I realize it’s the percentage plus .10, but how do I set the percentage to come close to that amount? I worry about overcharging and don’t want to risk any liability

You can't directly do it. You just have to add an amount to cover more so you ultimately get the amount deposited to you that you wanted. When you add any amount to a sale, it increases the % of Square's fee.... the fee is based on the full subtotal.

Honestly, probably easier to just add it to the item price. It's just the cost of doing business. I wouldn't add a service charge for the electric bill to run lights for customers..... it's just something you have to pay, and Square is pretty much the lowest fee I've seen. Although, I get some people wanting the customer to see the cost of the card transaction.

Hi Steph2014,

Have to agree with Crystalimages - it's the cost of doing business.  Some people simply raise the cost of their item in order to absorb the difference.  Others do include a service charge - this link has more details of what you can do.   Also note the FAQs, especially the last one - there's a few requirements to consider.

Also, check you state laws. Some states don't allow you to pass the fees onto the customer, legally.

This is another reason to add it to your item cost. You're charging for it, but not directly.
