I how I’m just missing something simple here. I input all my items on the dashboard. They automatically populate on the POS And online store. So far so good. Then I put an item on discount by entering it into the “sale price” field on my dashboard. Immediately showed up online BUT nowhere to be found on the POS… still lists the original price. I cannot find any way to manually override this. I tried calling square, their suggestions were cumbersome and very contrary to the seamless, intuitive system I have become used to. Is there no way for my sale price to show up on my POS without deleting the original price? Why would there be a “sales price” field only on the dashboard but not on the POS? Literally everything else seems to be available from both.
please help.

Hi @BTF22. It took me a minute after reading your post to collect information. But I have answers. I’m going to split them up into two questions, as follows:
- Is there no way for my sale price to show up on my POS?
- Why would there be a “sales price” field only on the dashboard but not on the POS?
Question 1 - Is there no way for my sale price to show up on my POS?
No there is not. Sale prices are currently an online store thing only. I have included two screen shots below. The first one is from Square Help for adding new items. You’ll note the disclaimer that certain online-store details are not synced with our master item list. The second screen shot shows that there is no “left and right arrow” next to the Sale Price field, so this would be a detail that is not synced. Since the POS uses information only in the Master Item List, and not the Online Item List, sales prices are not available to POS. This seems to be by current design.
Question 2 - Why would there be a “sales price” field only on the dashboard but not on the POS?
This is always the million-dollar question! When Square designed and implemented the Online Store, they obviously got feedback that Sale Price was imperative for online sales to be useful. After that, someone seems to have made a decision that Sale Price was an online-store-only feature.
My best recommendation for now is to go to the Feature Request board and submit a feature request. I’d recommend submitting it for Square Point of Sale and mention that it might be useful for all Square platforms (including Restaurants, Retail, etc.). Keep in mind that not every seller will want this automatic sync. I’m betting that some (many?) sellers only have sales online and leave their bricks-and-mortar prices as is, due to higher overhead costs. That means that even if Square does decide to do this, they will probably add new account settings so that each seller can specify where, and where not, sale prices apply for them.
Otherwise, the only way I know to fix your POS to reflect the sales is to manually change the original price. You can change both in the Online Store item list since the “Price” syncs back to the master list. For now, that is truly the only real option.
Best regards,

Thanks for the reply. I will submit this.
do you happen to know if I change a price from my POS will that then sync to my online? If not, that would be an easy fix for me. I could change the price only in my POS and online could still show “original” and “sale” price.

Yes. If you change Price so that POS shows the sale price, the that change would be synced to the online store. Of course, that means that your online store would lose the visual appeal of showing the original price crossed out along with a new, lower sale price. That’s definitely a drawback. That’s why I suggested your also submit a feature request. So that you can have the best of both worlds. For now, you have to decide which is more important to you — having the sale price everywhere, or having the online story show details of an active sale. You can’t have both, currently.

I agree with this being an important feature. I just put an item on sale online. Our website says "On Sale - Was $15.99, Now $12.99". That of course didnt sync to our POS, so I changed the price in the POS to $12.99. Now the "Sale" badge disappeared from the website and it no longer looks like the item is on sale. Also, since I changed the price on the POS, now I have to remember to change it back after the sale is over. Not ideal at all. Especially for an app that is called "Square RETAIL". All retail stores that I know of have sales.

Hey @FlightTeam. @BTF22 (the original poster of this thread) submitted a feature request here, as I suggested. You should follow that link and upvote and add your comments of support to their request. I’d just copy/paste your post above there, as well.
