Dear community, please respond— Yesterday, we logged into our Square Dashboard and all our wholesale cost/unit cost information was wiped from all our items. It was replaced by a link to sign up for Square Retail Plus.
Our accounting requires that unit costs be included in our Square reports. Is there any way to add unit cost to items in the system without upgrading to Square Retail Plus? We are a not-for-profit organization and cannot afford the additional $80-$90 per month for this one crucial feature. Please advise!

Hi @616161421. I might be wrong, but I’m guessing here that you only recently signed up for Square Retail? If so, you had the 30-day free trial which including all of the Retail Plus features. It sounds like your trial expired and now, yes, you do need Retail Plus in order to use cost of goods reporting. Here’s a link to the Square for Retail Plans, from which I took a screen shot showing what I just said.
I know that’s not what you wanted to hear, but it is the reality. Cost of goods tracking and reporting is an advanced feature of Square and it is not included in the free plans — not just Retail but Restaurants also. I’m sorry to the bearer of bad news here. The only workaround I know would be to have a spreadsheet of your unit costs. Then you could download your sales for whatever period and import that to this spreadsheet to calculate your CoGS. Otherwise, I can’t think of any other workaround that will not cost money.

Thank you very much for your response. It's very helpful. One thing: I don't believe we signed up for the Square Retail Plus free trail. We've had Square Point of Sale since early March, not Retail. We were able to add unit costs these past two months—it's only just been paywalled.

Interesting. Maybe a moderator can weigh in here and verify that, indeed, there has been a recent change of which I am unaware.

One thing you may want to try, go to your dashboard then Settings/ Account&Settings/ Business Information/ Pricing & Subscriptions. From there you can see if you may have accidentally signed up for Square Retail. If so you can cancel your subscription from there and go back to the free version.

@rtfulk I appreciate the suggestion. I just looked it up—we have "no active subscriptions." 😞

@616161421 I was hoping that would’ve been the problem and you would have an easy solution. If the retail subscription does not show up in the Pricing & Subscription section, then you never subscribed to it. Have you tried a different browser to log into Square? Also have you tried clearing your cache in the browser? When you do get back in and the unit cost isn’t showing up you can click on the + and add or remove features. I’ll post a photo below.
